| well even if it runs fine on release tomorow it doesnt really mean anything. the real test is when the expansion comes out, we cant say they did a good job until we see how performance in the expansion is, and not just the first expansion it has to be atleast the third one and if its not a desert expansion you can pretty much write the game off as a failure right then. |

+1 Internets | Didn't EA have hundreds of thousands of people in it? 300 000 pre-orders was cited before. Probably an overestimate but I think retail sales will be bolstered by the hype from the EA. As to WOW killer; no. AOC isn't inherently complex, but there is a complexity and a bunch of little things that make it a bit harder to play than WOW. Plus, with my first glimpse of titties and nips last night, that rules out the soccer moms, and the kiddies who have soccer moms. I'm sure the roleplaying cyber demographic will shift to AOC quickly; they can fulfill their bondage/whore fantasies. edit: Tolanin with the EQ2 potshot. +1 Internets | GMT is usually -5 EST. However, I don't think they have DST over there, so right now EST is only -4 in North America. That's what's been throwing me off with the times they use, they've seemed wrong using the -5 GMT\. |

| Was up as of 6am EST this morning. I must say that my machine runs this game 10x better than it did during open beta. Whatever fixes they implemented seemed to work for me. Load times were noticably shorter(almost quick enough to not be an annoyance.. almost) and i had a constant 40 fps even around tortage(my system specs arnt great... 3.2ghz pent 2, 7900gtx, 3gigs of ram, XP)... I had a lot of fun leveling this morning and cant wait for work to get over with! |

+3 Internets | It's kind of hard (and stupid) to innovate in an mmo once it's launched (let alone on it's 4th year of launch). Google around for the Gordon Walton video from the Master Class lectures Warren Spector gave at UT. He talks about innovation in mmos as well as many other mmo-related subjects that people argue endlessly about (cooperation vs competition, for example). Check out the rest of them if you are at all interested in game design. There's a Mike Morhaime one where he talks about Blizzard and their growth due to wow, among other things. | Sometimes lack of creativity in one field leads to fail in another field. Like, um... Fifa 06, 07, 08 rots the minds of the general populace and lowers expectations across the board. Yeah, you heard me. Crappy recycled sports games do have an impact on MMOs. In fact, all crap games have an impact on all other games because devs get complacent and publishers recognise that we'll buy the same old tired shite with higher res and shinier box. Same way as we get Alien II, III, IV and then eventually the ginger stepchild itself AVPII. If the Average Consumer(tm) was a little more discerning in what he or she bought we wouldn't have half the shite foisted on us by cash blind big budget publishers. I could summarise the above in "I HATE EA AND THEIR STEADY HOMOGENISATION OF COMPUTER GAMES" but I thought the wordy version was better. I might just have made up a word there. Homogenisation... hmm. (You can substitute the above for "LOLOL U MEEN U HAVNT PLAYED MASSIVELY MADDEN ONLINE LLOLOLOL etc." if you'd rather I go for the cheap joke) |

+12 Internets | Theres barely been any innovation in fps since half life 1 and it's not like all innovation has dried up because of it. I wonder if there has ever been a time when people didn't think there was zero innovation left. |

| Uh, it makes sense. Could care less is the phrase that doesn't. If you could care less, it means you have a certain amount of caring - thus the possibility for you to care less. Now, on the other hand, if you couldn't care less, that means you don't care at all - meaning there is no potential to care less about the subject than you currently do. |
