GTA Online?: Crackdown Creators Bought Their MMO Back Just To Sell It To Rockstar?

If this bears fruit, we could be looking at a new genre of MMO's (finally).

and there was another APB thread recently, can't believe this game has been mentioned 3 years ago. The article says Webzen was "scheduled to" produce the game, leads me to believe they haven't even started on it yet. I know there was a trailer posted...

Unless Rockstar only bought the name and is planning to rebrand GTA IV MP as APB or as "the gta mmo", I don't see this game coming out until, earliest 09 if it's a rebrand, 10 earliest if it's from the ground up, maybe even 11 or at latest 12 if it's mismanaged.

There are lot of job postings on their site, while its possible they might turn around and sell it to Rockstar i think it is unlikely that they will do this. I suspect that they will simply keep working on it and looking for a publisher. W/E happens id be interested in seeing how this develops as an MMO.

I think this would be a brilliant use of the "leveling" discussed in that essay.

That sounds about as silly as Blizzard buying Dungeon Runners so they can make a Diablo 3 MMO.

I am admittedly not a huge fan of GTA 4 in terms of the single player story.

That said the online team modes of Cops and crooks,turf war and just general team death match is more fun that I have had in an online team based shooter in a long long long time.

I hit a tree last week while running from the cops with 3 guys in my car blasting at the cops behind us. Myself and the guy in the passenger seat both flew out the windshield,he smoked a tree about 50 feet away and died, I lived,the two guys in the back seat they wasted the carload of cops who were also all players and those guys were pissed.

I was sitting on the floor laughing hysterically because as I was flying out the wind shield I actually watched my passenger hit the tree from my peripheral vision.

If they can capture the kind of fun I have had over the past week playing GTA 4 online,they will make a mint. The game in the cops VS crooks with just 16 people playing is just stupid fun.
