If they could pump out a new BG theme every 1~2 months it wouldn't be so bad. Blizzard just can't keep up with a pace like that though. They've become too monolithic.

The one thing that boggles my mind is the fact that there are now ~140 people working on World of Warcraft, yet they still churn out content at the same rate as previously.

Huh?

WoW took like 3-4 years to develop with the original crew. Maybe longer.

You dont see the difference between making a game from scratch and building an expansion?

I'd be happy if they just varied the maps. I mean they could come up with many, many maps that just have the rules of the current ones implemented. You que for WSG, and it sends you to one of 10-20 different maps to play capture the flag on. How hard could that be? They could even just copy portions of pve zones ffs. Obviously they couldn't implement that many overnight, but if they had a few people just constantly coming up with new maps for current BG's they'd be so much more enjoyable.

What? You're presumption is that an expansion is easier because all the tools have been in place?

Ok. Well:

1) Hiring new people doesn't mean "Ok, you're hired, why don't you go design and build an instance". You actually have to, you know, train those people to use the tools you have designed.
2) Not everyone hired is developing game content. Many are there to improve infrastructure. As a company grows, so does it's infrastructure such as human resources, customer service, accounting, management, etc.

What boggles the mind is how some of you have zero comprehension of what it takes to run a business. It's almost like you expect if McDonald's hired 25% more employees, then you should get your burger cooked twice as fast, or that new items should be added to the menu every quarter.

No. Those 140 people are working on World of Warcraft Development.

What boggles the mind is how you can make such elaborate posts about something you know absolutely fuck-all about.

But... new items ARE added to the menu every quarter.

'05er + McDonald's + WoW = Toasted Shit Wrap. It was added to the dollar menu.

Non instanced BG? Why am I not looking forward to it? It must be for the massive population imbalance I guess. Last time I bothered peaking in Halaa it was horde (10) vs alliance (37): balance ftw.
If they put in some artificial limitations, they could as well instance it.

Hell, use some of the existing zones / instances as new BGs. I for one would love to see a Mount Hyjal BG or imagine if they allowed city BGs, similar to the way FFXI used existing cities for Dynamis. Would be fun as Hell to do a Horde invading Stormwind BG or Alliance invading Thunder Bluff.

Yes, siege of stormwind BG would be excellent, and would actually make sense in the gameworld. I'm not a lore freak, but a goblin in a tuxedo who gives out an endless supply of endgame loot to whoever can run around a pillar the best doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Hi Blizz, it's called WARcraft, orcs vs humans and all that good stuff. Where did it go?

The same place Nokia rubber boots and upmarket Burberry caps went. It's just a brand, get over it.

you guys remember the artwork in the wc2 manual? was metzen's best work. had awesome pics of orcs holding up human heads and etc equally badass. great lore.

look at warcraft today. children's week just finished; i showed an orphan around. i've got a valentine's day basket in my inventory, and i see a little pet follow my friend around named mr. wiggles.

mass commercialization? nah. designing to the lowest common denominator? never. turning a great story with well written lore into a crapfest full of nonsense for kids only for more $? no way!

how warcraft has changed.

oh wait, it must be these rose colored glasses. i need to take those off.
