| Based on the advertising - SWG and Vanguard, hands down, too many reasons to list them all. Based on my expectations - EQ2, hands down. I expected big things from the EQ2 necro, I was onboard day 1, and 10 levels into my EQ2 necro career, I was sad dark elf. I think most WoW disappointments/bashes have to do with the personal expectation based on the RTS games and thinking in meaningful world PVP terms. I just honestly don't think class based games lend themselves to good, balanced and meaningful PVP. They always go a min/max path, and a few classes rule, while a few classes suck. Pick the game with PVP, and you can find 3 classes that rule, and 3 more that suck...if the classes are truly unique. I think if Blizzard makes a World of StarCraft, they will peg the disappointment meter with their fanbase if that game isn't pretty much "Planetside meets the Zerg." You can pick one of three races, and either be a ground, flying or support class. Anything beyond that, and WoW PVP gripes will seem like faint echoes from distant lands compared to what longtime SC players will unleash.

UO:R can probably be compared to NGE though. Basically OSI caved in and gave the forum whiners what they wanted, in turn ruining the game for the people who actually enjoyed it and spent their time playing it rather than trolling the forums.

| I hate to say it, but every MMO since EQ1 has been disappointing to me. EQ1 was my first MMO, and it just seemed so new. No MMO has made me want to play day and night like EQ1 did. Looking back at it, I probably was pretty close to addicted to EQ1 without being addicted. I didn't miss work, but I sure did stay up raiding much later than I should have. Anyway, the biggest misses to me have been: EQ2: The gameplay mechanics were just too restrictive to me. Also, the future proofing of the game didn't make for great fps. COH: This game had so much potential, but the devs never followed up. They just kept trying to improve the 1-50 game, and totally ignored the endgame. Four years later, and I have given up hope with these devs. SWG: I played from day 1, and from jump, this game sucked. I don't know how all of these people are reminiscing about it. The fact of the matter is that you could master any profession other than BH or jedi in just a few days' playtime. Vanguard: I thought that McQuaid would pull of his grandiose claims. After all, I had so much fun with EQ1. MxO: Apparently I was one of the paltry 40K people who bought the game and subbed it. I still think the game would have been decent if SOE gave it any resources. I am really hoping that there is an MMO out there that will provide me with 75% of the fun I had with EQ1. I haven't seen it yet, and I have played just about every MMO there is. |

| I agree with the above post; there has yet to be an MMO since EQ that has really been "OMG AMAZING". I was a huge UO player so EQ was not my first, but both of those MMO's delivered in so many ways. Im still looking for a "next-gen" MMO that will blow me away. 1st generation(UO/EQ) were very unique and had elements in them that no one had seen/played before.. 2nd gen(daoc/wow/coh/etc) just seemed to be polished versions of 1st gen mmos. Im looking for a generation of games that is really innovative.. something that isnt just rehashed concepts from older games.. I was kinda hoping VG was going to be this game, but we all know the nose-dive that took. personally, I think for pvp Shadowbane was the closest to a next-gen game that I have played. They took daoc border kingdoms and made them 10x better by having them player built / designed / defended / etc. Unfortunately that game failed miserably in other aspects :-/ |

+12 Internets | Sorry but SWG was the biggest let down. Horizons a close second, all the promises and the awesome that could of been those games. I could say Vanguard but its a decent MMO now while Horizons and SWG are still complete shit.

+1 Internets | Final Fantasy XI, limited character models. No matter what kind of computer you had the damn game still looked the exact same. Was expecting it to be more turn based and less repetitive. The trade skills were tedious as shit and made me want to punch my monitor. Nothing about the game had any form of "fun" in it. It all seemed like work and I really thought Square could pull off an entertaining MMORPG. Maybe next time. |

| Hellgate London hands down for me. Loved D2 more then any other game as far as something to play with friends and they epically failed. Vanguard I never had high hopes for but I am starting now and very impressed. First let me admit I am the epitome of a Mythic fanboi but Warhammer has a chance of failing and it scares me. But I do have faith.

| The next big game that really succeeds won't be too chicken to have a long open beta with no NDA. Every stinker that tries to sneak up on us fails at sneakin' and just plain fails. First sign of a problem is the sekrit build that is really good, we swear, ala Warhammer. It is (apparently) literally too much to ask of 95% of the MMO's to be engineered well enough and with enough common sense to survive scrutiny late in beta. (LOTRO did have a pretty wide open late beta, pre-release thing, and that is probably in line with it being the most relatively successful release lately. Too bad the combat is mushy.) | Everquest 2 None of you can deny the let down you felt in your gut after finally realizing EQ2 was a pile of shit and nothing like the first.

| Disappointments, eh? SWG: This is a given. Horrible UI + Horrible launch + features that were in early builds and didn't exist until later (jedi/spaceships) = ;_; Horizons: I only list this because the pre-alpha "vaporware" stage had some great ideas and the final product was almost completely different. FFXI: I -REALLY- wanted to like this game. But shit XP grind + horrible death penalty + difficulty in getting groups/you couldn't solo past your mid-teens = fuck you! COH: The early COH game was fun as hell at launch. But once they began nerfing powers, not reducing the XP grind, and the lack of variety in the high end = I lost interest. It's too bad because the early game in COH was some great, great fun...esp if you played with friends.

| WoW was my biggest disappointment. I enjoyed all the MMOs I subscribed to (not beta'd, mind you) and especially WoW... but somewhere along the way the world lost its appeal to me. I enjoyed going to different cites and landmarks on my way to dungeons and raids. Once everyone got crammed into Shattrath, (The lobby city), it just felt like Diablo.
