I never liked crafting, but SWG made that even fun with experimentations, running factories, surveying, and planting resource machines.

Unfortunately I have no clue who thought of some of the shit that was being implemented. I still don't know if LA was behind the NGE, or SoE was. I hear mixed comments from both sides.

Edit: Whoever thought that star wars needed to be more exciting by adding "Pew Pew" effects to the game play with random mouse clicking at mach 3, should never touch or play another video game again.
No I remember stuff like....

http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorp...jedi-goes.html

http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorp...re-orders.html

http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorp...unch-ever.html

as reminders of how fracked up that game was.

It is also amazing how after the fact, just how good the game was...when it was postings on THIS very brd why I didnt subject myself to the game until the CU.

Found the game and first 2 expansions for under $30 at Best Buy....what a bargain. Yeah OK.

One days worth of playing(several play sessions) showed me I wanted no part of this steaming chit. That indeed the stuff I had read was true....a game that needs recursive macroing for the huge time-sinks...WTF!!!!!

I swear some of you sound like those idiots that carry on daily over on MMORPG vet site...

SWG Veteran Refuge - Star Wars Galaxies - MMORPG.com Forums

Did SWG have some good ideas? Sure crafting was supposed to be an inspiration to real world products...or something like that. But the majority of the game was a flaming pile at launch...and up until the NGE.

Whether NGE is any good(it isnt) is irrelevant.

What is relevant is listening to you carry on about how good the game was, could of been, etc...when you railed on it for as long as ya did Ut.

I normally am one to side with your ideas just from dealing with ya on MMDN Ut...but in this instance you really need to STFU when it comes to SWG.

Ya dont like it...ya do...ya dont.

Get your story straight man...dont change stances just on account of SOE hate. That is exactly how you are reading.

SWG has been fracked up all through its existance. Saying otherwise is to look thru the proverbial "rose colored glasses".

PRE-CU FTW...No it is more like PRE-CU FTL and you will do well to remember so.

Now we need to drop this topic before that pencil dick Jester Rodo finds his way over here. I actually prefer Sam's BS posts to Rodo's mindless drivel.

Lord help me for admitting as much

How about we just type "del swg"

and be done with this game ever being a MMO.

i think you can chalk it up to taking swg for granted, or rose colored glasses when remembering. i know it happened with me and classic eq (well the former more than the latter), and while i did bitch on and off about swg, it was an enjoyable MMO even with the bugs/pvp imbalances.

The community and the Star Wars license (bastardized as it often was) make it easy to remember this game fondly. For all the game's problems, it did some things very well, and I felt far more connected to the other players than I have in any other MMO I played.

I had an okay time with it when I played in 2005 (not sure what stage of the game this fell under, it was in the summer of 05). I sold my barc speeder (came with the expansion pack I bought) for like 5 million credits and bought the best composite armor I could find. I got my tiny ass human to 80 bounty hunter/pistoleer and hunted down newbie jedi for sport. It got old though when I realized how few people were playing..I think I spent a total of two weeks there.

Just went back for a couple days early this year...they totally changed shit around. I was able to take my guy any class I wanted (they completely had revamped it). It's sad that the armor I had was still pretty much the best you could buy (you can spend shit tons on mandalorian armor, but it's just for the aesthetics). I sold some vet rewards I had for like 30 million credits, dicked around in some wookiee instance, then got bored and left.

Safe to say, I'm not logging back into another Star Wars MMO until the kotor one comes out.

I log in to check out content usually 2-3 times a year, and at least once when they have a free access pass. This just came via e-mail in the past day:

I don't understand your comment. I said the game had a ton of potential. It's too bad it was never realized. Nothing in PvE, nothing to fight for in PvP, completely broken doctor buffs that would render anyone immortal and made anything that was there in PvE (which wasn't much) trivial... The list goes on. I never said I liked the game. I ripped it to shreds, and continued to do so after they somehow made the abortion worse. I illustrated in my mind what would have made it better than it was. That doesn't mean I all of a sudden changed my stance.

I said I liked harvesting resources and the crafting system that was in place, factories, and such. Nothing more, nothing less. Adding a ranking system that opened unlockables in a war, battling over resources to make unique items, solid PvE content, working battlegrounds, or any solid raiding system would have opened up the opportunities instead of making it even worse by thinking it needed more action because Star Wars is about "Action" in the movies.

Next time read what I write before telling me to shut the fuck up.

Ah SW:Gs... How I miss thee. I would love to play a pre-everything version of it. *sighs* Crafting and resource farming was tons of fun... *shrugs*

Wasn't so hot logging in, after the server being down once a day, not knowing if you house was going to be there or not, with all your crafting stations in it.

While poking around for AOC info today I saw that SOE is adding the Battle of Hoth to SWG. Way too little way too late, but I guess they're making enough money off this to keep pumping out content.
