| Someone in another forum was asking about a f2p mmo and since he was kicking the Runescape habit I suggested two games, one of which was Dofus because even though I never played the game I recall reading a chart that showed it along with the other games in my heading are the only one to not stop growing since their introduction. Ironically though if you go to the main forums of these games there (well I've only been to 3 of them) there is constant bitching about flaws of those games. So instead of picking on their flaws I wanted to examine what made them good. A few of the things that comes to mind with the three games I played EvE -Provides the best player driven experience so far. EvE really fills that charm of enjoying a game while not playing it like Metal Gear Solid, Starcraft and a bunch of fighting games at an arcade. -Has a wider and deeper depth of strategy than even strategy games. -A space based game that doesn't blow complete ass Runescape -Ton of skills you don't see in other mmos (farming and agility for example) -The quests are pretty creative (rescueing Prince Ali and unlocking all the secret in the haunted mansion don't get old) -number crunching wasn't that neccessary to get ahead. WoW -The instances get more and more epic -the zones are just amazing (I love Arathi Highlands and Razorfen Kraul) -the way your class can change with gear keeps them fresh even though it does have some drawbacks -the combat system when pvping is a lot of fun |

| What do Lineage II and FFXI do that EVE doesn't? Because they have more subs than EVE. http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html It all depends on who you ask. I subscribe to EVE and I enjoy it. It has a unique demographic though and isn't that popular of a game relative to others though. As a non Fantasy game its at the top though. Are they doing something wrong just because they don't have the subs as other games? I'd say no. I hate Lineage 2 and have tried to enjoy it but I can't Does that mean they are doing something wrong? All the subs (bots or not) say they are doing something that some people enjoy though. |

| OP post not insightful at all. Also, the thread title makes it sound like there is some common element between those games that is being done right. Its a shame that this post made it out of the planning phase. |

But apparently someone things that FFXI is a dead game outside of Japan and I'm retarded. Oh, how I wish the internets system wasn't anonymous. | |

+2 Internets | I had hope for this thread after reading the title. Something like an in-depth analysis of the success of these games and the viability of microtransactions in North America. Did not deliver. You can't really lump EVE in with those games because the subscription number doesn't compare. Unless this thread was supposed to be "The top games that I like, and the reasons why I think they're good." You have three games that are hugely successful in Asian markets, and one that is an indie company (CCP) that did something right but doesn't have near the subscribers worldwide that WoW, Runescape, and Dofus have. |
