Nice, I recognize most of those areas haha. I always loved AO but could never get the friends I game with into it.

It's still fun, and why I give it my time at least part of every year.

Best tips I can think of:

- Stay away from tower wars and AI stuff. the former is just org vs org epeen stuff, and the latter isn't really important until very high end anyway.

- Don't level past 24 without going to your faction's Subway instance. Find a team, and run that dungeon all the way to the end. You'll thank me for telling you this.

- make sure you have the following bookmarked:

AUNO
Anarchy Mainframe
USeful AO Tools

(Clicksaver and Nano Nanny are must haves)

- If you get SL for the $5, make sure to visit Rubi Ka and do some missions to get a feel for the whole game.

It is a fun game and has some cool things in it for sure. I bash FunCom for what they do badly, but AO is full of cool stuff, so FC does make a fun game, jut steer clear of the borked stuff and it's all good.

What i love about AO is most every other mainstream MMOG that has come out has essentially been the same damn game with minor tweaks. AO was like nothing before it and nothing has been like it since. Yes it is not perfect but it is totallly original. Not just saying Sci-Fi either, thats not what I meant. Its the systems and way things are done, if you haven't played it you wouldn't understand, but it is nothing like EQ/WOW/DAOC etc..

Venjenz...ikariam?

Might go back to AO if we get a small FoH group together. Everytime I've picked up AO it was always by myself. I remember group missions being rather buggy too.

Yes, Hecklers. Pretty silly with everyone camping them in SL. I agree about SL in general though, the expansion really did divide the community up. But god dammit, it's a beautiful expansion with some cool stuff in it.

Same. The game is amazing with a group of people. If people get together to play AO I'll make plans to re-subscribe and have some fun with the game again. AO really is a cool game, but there is such a diverse community it's hard to find a place to fit in. Most of my guild was from the UK.

The environments look passable definately, but god almight, the models need the worst update. Put the old models against a shiny new backdrop doesn't really help.

I play AO almost every year for 1-3 months at the time. Usually just start a new characters to re-learn the game mechanics again. I have the same problem as others who posted here - not having any RL friends interested to play the game with me. Eventually I just grow tired of solo play and quit until the following year.

By the way, when is that graphic overhaul coming?

What are the subscription options for someone who stopped playing before the SL expansion and has only the original game? Do you pay the full 15 if you wanted to reactivate but don't want all the expansions?

Its free to play for vanilla accounts. If you played from launch the Settlers Travel Pack (forget the exact name, its similar to that) that Funcom gave for the shit launch to all players is now one of the most saught after items in game. Sell it for 300mill in game and you are set for a long time.

Can you use the old account though? I don't see that option in their account status section. It seems as though any old account requires the $15 sub for reactivation no matter what expansions you didn't have.

Yes mate, you can use the old account. If you take another look it will say you are paid up and not due to pay again until next January (they do the free thing one year at a time) - only the date is there.

Just d/l the client and log in.

I had a new enforcer up to 150ish, and a soldier in the 50s or 60s if my memory serves. I'd love to raise that soldier up to 200 though. If we had a few folks with SL/AI accounts (so we get all the SL and AI skill ups and what not), I'll play anything people need though.

Send me a PM and maybe we can get something cooking, even if it's only a small crew of 4 or 5. That way we can do most stuff, and progress at a mellow pace. It is a fun game if you know how to avoid the bad parts.

Veteran Months 0
Registered add-ons Notum Wars

You cancelled this account on 2003-04-19 12:21:17
This account cannot currently be used for playing
(Reactivate now to be able to play!)

Anyway, I emailed Funcom as well.

Yeah I am starting up soon and will put up a character name when I do.

I need something free to play from Iraq since I can't seem to dedicate full time effort to raiding from here.
