Yeah. The basic game has been free for years. You need to sub and buy the expansions to play off Rubi-Ka. Quote:

| Actually, you can include Shadowlands for 5 bucks a month if you don't want a full sub.

| This game still has some of the finest music out there. Does anyone have the 9 minute main track? I've been looking for it on Youtube but I can only find the song for the Rebel city. It's remarkable, I liked the style of the game so much that in conjunction with the music I have tremendous fondness for it even though I barely played past the newbie zones.

Definitly true. The music *MADE* Anarchy Online for me when I first got into beta. Which was good, since the rest of the game was pretty much a disaster. I still play those mp3s when I'm writing up reports and such on the PC. Great stuff. I've watched lots of AoC vids and haven't noticed anywhere near the same level of soundtrack quality. I guess it's a different sound team now. Too bad. | |

| I actually subbed for all expansions soon after I started playing, but hardly left the free game at all in the last few weeks I've been playing. Alien Missions blow goats. If anyone is going to sub I'd definitely just pay for SL rather than all the expansions. SL is worth it for $5 a month, but the rest of it isnt worth $15 a month at all, most especially not for new players. I've edited in some useful links at the bottom of the first posts. YouTube - Age of Conan I don't remember the AO music being that good, but then I had such bad experiences the month I played beta I never really looked back. | |

| I could be wrong, but hasn't the vanilla game been free for like, years now? EDIT: Guess so, didn't read the entire thread. Anyway, I'll agree that the music was great, as was the geography. AO is pretty much the only MMO since EQ where I wanted to level up simply to explore more areas. I fucking loved walking around with the in-game music going. Even though the graphics weren't all that special by the time it released, somehow the game hit that great level of immersion that early EQ did. |

| Seconded. Thanks for that link. The Backyard music is my personal favorite. I actually resubbed a couple of weeks ago out of nostalgic interest. After playing much more modernized MMOs the UI is painful, but thankfully Dovve's Notumtech skin still works. I won't be playing it again, but it is nice to hop on to chat and look around for old times sake. I hate what they did with Old Athens. It had a lot of character to it before thay had to go shit it up. It basically looks like an Omni joint now. |

| You're welcome, and no I don't swing that way. I might do your mom, however (or already have - who knows?). In any event, you kids might want to check out that really nifty "Google" box up there in the top-right corner of Firefox (and if you're not using Firefox, you're a fucking idiot and beyond hope), then enter "Anarchy Online soundtrack". Voila! Once you get super-advanced in using teh interwebz, you'll find other uses for that "Google" thing. |

| żżżżż | I played anarchy online off and on for many years, before and after Shadowlands. The game use to be a ton of fun till Shadowlands came out and divided the community up way to much. Which made Rubi-ka pretty much obsolete, and shifted the story line from conflict on Rubi-ka to conflict in shadowlands. This is definitely a game I would like to see a sequel for, AO 2. Funcom did a good job on making you feel like your in the future.
