Your personal rating can't go down and doesn't reset until end of season. Personal rating determines what you can buy and what teams you'll face. Highest personal rating on the team determines matches.

Team rating is reset every week and determines how many points you get. Teams are locked once you play a game that week. You have to play 50% of games to get points.

I think it would be effective to say the least.

That is superior to the current system, no doubt about it.

They could just use some sort of averaged team rating (or personal rating?) for the entire season as the rating for seasonal awards.

More rating requirements on gear would be great if they did more to stop point selling. The changes they are going to implement seem half-assed.

Whatever the motives to do so, skilled and geared players reseting their ratings and stomping people way below their gear and skill level is very bad for the game. Blizzard seems to have a real hard time matching players appropriately in arenas as well as battlegrounds, which is rather crucial when you instance the fuck out of the game.

These changes are awesome, now there's really no reason to resub until WotLK!

This change right here:

-If a character’s personal rating is more than 150 points below the team rating, they will earn points based on their personal rating instead of the team rating.

completely eliminates casual point selling, which is what most people are doing.

However, most people that really want to profit from the arena system will switch over to pr/team rating selling, which these new rating requirements creates a market for.

How about this:

Pvp/Pve gear all have iLvl, sum it up and you get a 'gear rating'. Then setup the matches with that gear rating instead of team rating.

Buying gear would still be determined by personal rating.

Gear Rating would have to be determined by the highest item per slot in [equipped/bags/bank]... so it could only go down if you destroy/sell an items.

I have a hard time thinking you actually believe this is feasible.

And if your pvp gear happens to be much lower in ilvl than your pve gear that's for a completely different spec?

They could lock your gear onto the character once you queue similar to the way they do it for combat. Queue with nothing on? Guess you lose! Blizzard can do much smarter things than they are shitting out lately, they are just lazy apparently.

So a highend PVE raider would always be penalized for having PVE epics of limited use in PVP?

Oh fuck that's right...they only let you buy the ring of the previous season.

Maybe they're trying to get away from a single avenue gearing out a character, forcing regular PvPers to arena just like arena players have to do BGs so they can get the boots and junk.

Have the rating system use a 'pvplvl' instead of 'ilvl' so PvP items would have greater values over PvE items.. depending on stats.

Either way, it's much better to rate someone on their gear because we all know how personal/team rating are flawed for matchmaking.
