Or for something easy and boring, druid. I've also hear mage pets got a decent upgrade to not be useless 55+, but I find nuking twice and watching a pet melee boring. Wizard soloing is just a slightly harder version of druid (no heals, run speed). Among the melee classes, a beastlord(shammy spells and powerful pet) or twinked monk/shadowknight. Never tried berserker. Conclusion: Necro, beastlord. Maybe mage, depending on pet strength. edit: I have leveled a necro to 65 and a druid to 60. Have played most other classes til mid level at least. Last edited by A2T : 05-04-2008 at 05:41 PM. Reason: p.s. | |

I can confirm that 76+ mage pets are, indeed, badass. Soloing blue to level 80 exp mobs can require chain healing, but if you bring a slower or a healer along, you're fine. Or, aggro kite with a necro. With a healer or slower, providing you have an all-ranged DPS group, the 76+ earth, water, or air pets can tank great. They regen fast as hell out of combat, too. It almost seems like they can actually tank BETTER than a decently geared level 70-75 warrior. I haven't messed around with the fire pet too much, but it seems to be pretty nice. They don't use mana anymore. They just cast DS on themselves, and nuke for 2100 something damage every 5 seconds, nonstop. They can also melee for a mediocre amount. Putting a group of six level 80 mages all with water / air pet out would be pretty damn fun in wide open XP zones like Loping Planes.

Don't rule out hybrids as amazing soloers, specially on FV. They are also going to be vastly more interesting than a necro or a druid. I solod AoW on my beastlord a few months ago w/o any pots or veteran rewards. And as far as solo exp goes he's a machine and does great dps in groups as well.

I would love a beastlord too, but does the guild need one? I figured we had a billion already. I tend to like pets and melee classes. I originally was a necro but i hated kiting, and swapped to a rogue in 2000.

There's currently no class that when we attend raids that we say we just have too many of. We normally run out of tanks and have someone else off tank stuff if they can. More healing is always welcome. More melee is always welcome as normally other than tanks there's 2-3 melee beating on mobs now during a raid. Several people rulled up wizards but I'm not sure I've seen one on a raid yet.

Another thing on mage pets that was surprising. A bunch of us were in Loping Plains yesterday. One level 80 necro (he hit 80 while were grouping, Seds) and another 71 or 72 necro. One of the necros would pull, and load up the mob with snare and DoT's, for quite a load of damage a tick. With taunt OFF, if I sent the pet in before ~85 percent, with all those DoT's and snare going, the pet would get aggro EVERY TIME. Even with sending it in at 85 percent, it very frequently pulled aggro after it'd been beating on the mob for a bit. Air seemed to get aggro least, water second, and fire was getting killed way too fast, due to not being able to tank when it got aggro. Air's tanking ability with stun is a bit better than water can do. But man, those pets are nasty, especially with a good bit of pet AA's.

So I've sub'd again for at least this month, it's a bit fun so far, though I have little time for the next 4 weeks. My problem is that my necro, not on FV, has no gear at all or plat. I suppose I could buy some plat, but still I'm betting with so many slots to fill I won't get much out of the bazaar. And I'd rather play on FV anyway, if I'm paying, but starting at level 1 makes me want to puke. So I check some auction sites for characters on FV (looking for at least level 60-65), and there are: few hits, and crazy prices considering the age of this game. My question: anyone know where I can check out reasonably priced characters on FV? I don't care what kind of gear or aa's, and will accept pretty much anything but pure melee.
