I've been screwing around in a few mmo's lately and I couldn't figure out what to stick it out in.. Thinking about trying this again. I haven't played EQ since PoP launched, so I'm going to have a shit load to learn. Is the guild here still going strong? What should I roll? I have a bit of extra money stashed away I'd be willing to spend on this, should I re roll completely or try to buy someones retired character? I only have around $175 available, so any advice on what would be most efficient would be cool :P

EDIT - Need either a Necro, Monk, or Paladin?

The guild's going good still. Raiding 3 days a week and having a lot of fun!

I'd say a paladin would be good for raids!

Anything works. We're not really full on any classes yet. But in order of preference I would say Paladin, Monk, Necro.

I figured I'd clarify this a little bit, since we've stopped giving weekly updates on our progression.

We clear the easier 3 bosses of anguish every week to gear up our folks. The last run took about an hour and a half start to finish. We are waiting on levels/AA's/people to attempt some of the later fights, specifically Jelvan, who although can be done with the numbers we have currently, they would have to be much better equipped and AA'd.

Along side this, we are also trying to break into Tacvi. We've killed the first 2 bosses in Txevu, going to hit the last boss tonight for Tacvi access. Our line of thought is that we just need to fill in people's bazaar gear with some more overall stats and resists from raiding, before we can make a push for much harder fights.

Last night, after our Anguish clear, we took a group of 18 to Demiplane to try the first boss there. We ended up getting his first incarnation down, but eventually wiped to the second one due to some slip ups. Overall, our goal is just to see raids and experience stuff that people haven't seen in a while while still having fun and getting some upgrades on the side.

That said, there are still a lot of people in the 50s leveling up. Your best bet if you want to play here is just to roll up and try to find some friends in guild that you can play with. I know this is a spot where a lot of people get discouraged and quit, but now that school is almost over for me, I'm going to be powerleveling a lot more lower guys up into their 60s so they can hopefully get their toons up to the 70s where most of our guys are.

We have a huge vent server, thanks to Javvo; Sajko and I are on vent pretty much nightly, scheming up plans for the guild and making ridiculously inappropriate jokes. There are tons of channels so you can just take your group guys into vent and bullshit while playing.

I'm very impressed by our resiliency over the last month or so. Even though a good 60% of our active members had finals and what not, we have almost never had to cancel a raid. Attendance isn't, and never will be mandatory, so that says a lot I think. After finals ended, a lot of the guys who were busy have bounced back and are around constantly. I think morale is strong overall, and I'm gonna really make an attempt to keep people of all levels happy moving forward.

With everyone being so busy, we've been a lot more quiet on this thread, but rest assured the train is still chugging along on FV.

im going to give you few suggestions:

1)keep working on Anguish. it's your best source of good level equipment. As easier 3 i suppose you killed Harrier, Ture and Hanvar.

Jenval is a bit annoying mob, but once you have enought equip it will become the easiest (we reach a point where we didnt care about balance their health. we just dps them down 1 at time ignoring the AE effects. and we did it with 35 mind you)

the Arch Magus can be very easy or very annoying, it depends how often it calls adds. Just remember to bring enought Disease Curers (shamans specially) and you win easely

2) as a farm mob, Porthio the Second Born is a very good source of 330/350 items

3) i know it's no more required, but dont forget to do the Spider Queen once. it's one of the most thrilling fights of the game. and it's a very good test to see how discipline your guild has (specially to test your tanks/healers efficency)

4) Demiplane of Blood first floor = pain in the ass, litterally.

Whoever designed Zi-Thuuli of the Granite Clawshould be shot. We once killed trash for 2 hour and half just to kill him

the ammount of trash, and the distance between the various mobs is a lot. After many raids we managed to clear the entire 1st floor in less than 2-1/2 hours (unless ZT spawns were fucked) but it's still a damn long pain-in-the-ass trashclearing

the second floor is much easier tho, with mobs near each other

5) Theater of Blood = $$$. 6 mobs you can reach in less than 20 mins with 350hp/mana items, killable with 40/45 when lv limit was 75

cant say much about DeathKnell and SerpentSpine mountains cause we never raided there before i stoped play

I think summer is generally a shitty time for all guilds as people go on vacation, etc. But yah, we've never had a raid with over 35 as far as I can remember.

How important is the newest expansion for someone starting over? I have an account with them all except the latest, will that be fine? Decided to start off with a paladin as well, always enjoyed tanking, and the spells paladins get.

only really need the new expansion if you are 75 or you have maxed stats with lots of SoF epic stat gear.

I rolled a mage and am having a blast. Havnt been on much the last week due to work/college but I got to 40 in a few days of super casual playing. Its alot better than it used to be for leveling.

My friend and I started at the same time and are having a blast. If you are even remotely thinking of trying it out, do so.

Down in one of the most fun fights I have seen yet.

I still can't get the image of Oolo running in circles being chased by Zun'Muram w/ pets beating on his back.

I must have WTD the same cleric 3 times during that fight (ran out of bodies to call back).

Just thought I'd throw it out there that this thread inspired me to try out EQ again after a 6 year or so hiatus. Within 4 or 5 days of fairly casual playing I have gotten a Necro up to level 56 and am having a blast, although I must admit I'm having doubts about whether FV was the right server to pick as it seems to be mostly deserted at lower levels and everywhere else seems to recommend Stromm as "the" high-pop newbie server.

I just want to say that the most important thing to me is that it still feels like the old girl I first fell in love with, although maybe she's had a few bad plastic surgeries.
