It was badly needed. Hopefully by 1.5 it will be worth resubbing, as right now it just isn't ><

They should have gone a little further to be an EVE clone and only had 1 server.

edit-should have read more than 2 posts. Apparently this has come up.

Not sure if a single server could have worked, but might have been worth a try. Especially if they added regions such as North Sea, the Med, the south china sea, etc. Plenty of room for expansion there.

A single shard server would have been idea for this game, as would have been new geographic expansion packs. Sadly, too little too late not withstanding the poor gameplay choices for what could have been an EvE killer.

Territory control is completely unlike EVE's, so it would never be EVE killer. Perhaps EVE for the masses, but that ship has has also sailed, as population is steadily declining instead of rising.

so for a game who's main attraction is an economy...

If PotBS is on the decline, how would they entice new players to play? From what I saw in the PotBS beta, I don't think a new starting player would find themselves enjoying the game at such a disadvantage. At least with EVE, to my understanding, with a leg-up from friends, you can obtain a decent ship to PVP with. I don't see that as an option in PotBS.

Getting a ship is not such a problem in PotBS. Pirates are self-sufficient anyway, while nationals can fall back to career tokens if there's nothing on the market. But I doubt the market is empty now and you get a lot fo doubloons while leveling for your PvE ships.

I'd be more worried about lack of targets and population imbalances in the endgame (= port battles).

a single server is not the answer to everything.
I even fail to see how it is positive in the least. What's the point of having one massive server when you can have enough population for 4 very healthy ones? Does it make the game better in any way?

I admittedly never gave PoTBS much of a chance in beta, but, there didn't seem to be very much to the game. Ship combat was fun a couple of times, but not something I'd want to do every day. Ship combat is pretty much all there is, right? Some very limited land-based avatar stuff along with it?

It seems like PoTBS would have done better as an expansion to an existing game. There just isn't enough there to be its own game.

Is there something you do in any other MMO besides fighting all day? Your post lacks sense

How are the subscription numbers even doing? POTBS is such a niche that it makes EVE look non-niche.

Why EU in particular? I don't think there's a difference between the US and EU servers on that particular matter. Also it seems actually that a good part of the "medium" servers have at least one or 2 good guilds(not competing for top50, but still good enough to kill stuff in SWP and have illidan on farm since last year)

Unless your plan is to be in the best of the world, or you have a shitty personality and you want a backup plan in case you get your ass kicked out of the trial from the one guild that does high end raids, you're fine almost everywhere.

At least that's my opinion, playing a rather backwater EU server, being in the 2nd horde guild on the server and still having killed kalecgos and working on brut(gear issues, killed illidan not too long ago).

There's a decent bunch of dead servers though, that's for sure.

But new games in general should aim rather a bit high, then merge servers fast. Since they're new, they'll get a lot of people like the first 2weeks or whatever, then half of that will probably go back somewhere else, and you have to fix it fast. If they're still here and more people are coming, there's always time to open new servers.

And if the one guild that actually is highend does not require your class right now you're completly fucked. I know of quite a few low pop elite guilds that simply won't invite anyone because they are full.

"not too long ago"? sounds like your guild would probably not even make it top 20 on a very high pop server. My guild was fighting over #3 and we killed Illidan in October. For a hardcore player being 6+ months behind the curve is not acceptable.
Then there's the whole arena issue. Usually guilds don't have more than 2 competitive arena teams and if you're not on it, you're out of luck because everyone else on your server is undergeared.

By no means your server or the other servers are dead, however they offer very little to a hardcore player compared to the old, good servers.
