to give shit eh?

Anyways. Out of the interest of full disclosure I have my own apartment where I download porn from.

Newer games level progression is solely based upon the easily attainable quest grind, it would make little to no sense to not have a marker of some sort signifying where you could obtain them. At level 60+ when 30-60 quests are easily done per level, i'm not so interested in spending my time going around and clicking every pc to see if he has a quest for me that I'll be giving back to him in the next 4 minutes. PC's aren't special. Easter egg hunting for them would be beyond aggravating.

I assume you're just trolling, with 3 posts and all, but in any case please feel free to continue with your great contributions.

everquest - out of the box thinking left and right giving the players the possibility to shine, like

-i solod that enchanter epic 1.0 thing in city of mist after like 2 weeks trying.I had to do alot of unconvential stuff including gfluxing myself charming ectectect- Oh NOZ such gamebreaking things must be nerfed! /rollseyes

-saving a full raid of 72ppl the day by giving them 2-4minutes to relog (respawn in 5minutes+boss in camp= full wipe and restart and it was way late already and the next day our competitor wanted to race for it) by strafe-running with my seruboots sow on while kiting mithaniel marr.I was a cleric.

-purple clubbing some tank like 2 times in a row in Omens of war, 1 hit of the mobs was like 30% of the tank too- Why is that impossible in WoW again?`Thought so

-Omens of war 1 group tests and Planes of power 1 group tests. Some groups never make it while others solve it all. Really a big gap between the groups skills.

-Being able to exploit,its fun

-Being able to box,its fun

-Being able to farm old raidbosses, but the loot is still okay and can be used (screw WoW sigh)

-BEING ABLE TO TWINK WHAT GODDAMN ASSHOLE THOUGHT ITS COOL TO STOP TWINKING.Oh nos someone who played trough the gamefor the 10th time can speed it up on the 11th time, someone call the FBI. Whole legions of players love twinking and only do that to level up again and again.

-charming and mezzing, its overpowered and the game can be designed around it and its mad fun. Especially if you combine with overpowered mobs. My charmed hasted quadding drolvarg once killed a whole guild. Dont askme why they were to dumb to dispell. They only tried like 5 times and dispelled twice. I got like 20 stories of mezzing alone too.

-A totally spread out playerbase in terms of powerlevels. Some were gods some were ants. Now mix this with modern mmorpg mechanics and give the sheeps/bulk of players alot to do and fun and protect them from the wolves in many important areas(like a ladder system for pvp so equal people can play eachother) and we have a winner imo. Man i miss good ol ego boost times.

-real dungeons with real people in it

-CHOOO CHOOO TO ZONE ALL DUCK AND COVER
/shout YOU FAGGOT THIS IS THE 30 TH TIME OMFG
An Ilis Knight Summons Mezmur
/shout hurr, wuts an Ilis knight?!?!="!
/ooc omg this newb trained to zone in
/shout haha n00b
/ooc camp check
/shout Shroom king
/ooc funny,i am sitting here next to him and dont see you
/shout damn, was worth a try =P
/shout WTF you sit next to me at zone in too!!!
/>5 groups racing to shroom king<

cant think of more right of the bat, but one thing is very obvious. Everything meaningful, deep and fun has been removed and replaced by pale placeholders. I strongly believe its possible to make a mass compatible game with these elements. The important part is to remember to keep the bulk of the casuals/players happy/dreaming and looking forward. Fuck balance, replace balance by playability/fun.

LotRO: playing music in game is something that would be excellent in a more open-ended MMO.

Should rename thread to, "Most of these ideas have been copied, I just only play one game so don't know what the fuck I'm talking about."

Oh, and saying, "Exploiting was good for the health of the game" just makes you look more retarded then usual Kasey, language barriers aside.

Anyways...

To contribute.

EverQuests LFG UI around the time of LDoN was possibly the -best- I've ever seen in any game ever. Even though the rest of that game was absolute trash in every conceivable way, the LFG interface was -perfect-.

That pretty much nails it. In WoW people think they are UBER if they find a nice pathing exploit. In EQ stuff like that was trivial. The solutions were way more complex and involved perfect execution as well. In EQ you could be a real hero.

The problem is that this can hardly be reproduced, because I think that most of it came from scenarios where devs didn't have full control over the situation. If everything is planned out perfectly, then players cannot have an edge on the devs anymore and that random genius factor gets lost.

EQ was such a great game, because it was a journey into the unknown for both, players and devs. There was no previous experience to build on and therefore anything could happen. None of the 2nd generation games managed to capture or recreate this excitement.

That is all.

e: And definitely NOT the two faction system of WoW. Being unable to even communicate with half the server stifles community and cohesion.

Wtf? He at least added to the discussion instead of being a fucking faggot such as yourself. You have the nerve to call HIM the troll when you started in on him first by "fixing" his post?

On topic: I am going to throw my vote in for UO style housing too. However, need to change it just a little bit so you dont have thousands of houses all over the landscape with no room to run. Id say do housing zones like DAoC/LoTR but with the design options like UO. Should also be able to hand out recall stone type objects if you happen to own a shop instead of a home.

I agree with this as well. Lucky for me I now play WoW with a bunch of RL friends so grouping is not a problem but when I played by myself a year or so ago getting groups setup could be so frustrating. I never had a problem in EQ though which with such a small population compared to WoW should of been harder. Though to be fair I was a bard and it wasnt uncommon to get dozens of tells a day

The language issue in WOW is extremely annoying. We can fight with the opposing faction through at least two 'wars' (AQ and the fight against The Burning Legion) but we can't actually talk to them?

I never understood it either. If they don't want to fix the issue though they could always do like DAoC and make a "Co-op" server where the alliance/horde can group/guild as much as they want too. I never played the coop server on DAoC but if your main focus is PVE and not PVP then it works great.

The ability to get soundly ass-raped by some crazy-ass mob (SGs, Spectres, Desert Madmen, etc.) while quietly going about your business. Kept you on your toes, made you care about how you pulled, was fun to see other people get fucked, was fun to come back later and save people from certain death. I know this has been copied to some extent...just not brutally or constantly enough.

I always liked the fear factor it added as well. Having a sand giant come up behind you and roflstomp you in 2 seconds was good times back in the day. WoW sorta has this in some places. Pre-TBC I remember leveling my alts in eastern PL and I always had the bad luck of running into the courier when I wasnt paying attention heh.

Several people mentioned the FFXI auction house. What's so special about it?

EQ:
Small Medium Large armor
Alternate Advancement system
Greater risk versus reward in terms of loot

And a feature I'd like to see added to MMOs, keeping the fucking the level cap constant instead of changing it. Increasing level cap with an expansion has become as common as getting a ginsu knife with a blender ordered from a infomercial.
