The caste systems look interesting. Honestly I think what people miss in MMO environments most, PvP or PvE, is interesting, meaningful interaction with the community beyond combat (and even beyond crafting).

That's what's killing me with WoW right now. I enjoy playing, am in a decently successful casual guild, but other than instances or raids (and sometimes PvP), our guild doesn't work on other things collectively that have any real meaning or impact in Azeroth, or even on the server. I'm getting to a "meh" point, and it's discouraging.

While I agree that they had a horrific lack of continuity or content, I miss the community from SWG in the first 18 months. You can't go home again.

Yeah guild achievement is a big thing for me, building a castle that has to be defended etc is something I enjoy a lot.

So in under 10 days now the counter on Home | Mortal Online reaches zero. I hope its a good gameplay video or beta sign ups.

After DF turned out to be not-fun, this went to the topspot of my list. But dear gawd, it takes one look at the announced features and you know for sure that you will be disappointed by the release.

You're just going from one failtrain to the next. You should get off at one stop and relax for a while.

I am just going to do some basic math.

Today: March 10th, 2009.
Targeted release: Summer 2009.
Beta: Still unannounced.

I forsee fantastic things.

Here are my protips:

1> Do not disclose a release date. This company's credbility just hit the skids given what time frame they are shooting for considering they have not even entered beta. I think based on experience of the people that post in this forum know what happens with that idiotic ideal.

2> A hardcore PvP system with tons of griefing for once only encounters (If they actually follow through with that, as said what will most likely happen is the same model is used and the name is changed) will probably sound appealing for about 50k people.

3> Design starting in 2002. Development starting in 2005. No Beta yet, and a target release within 3 months of Beta = Losing funding and ship now or die attitude. Meaning a possible release of Vanguard proportions (On a press scale a lot less saturated though because I doubt a lot of people will care)

Basically just an opinionated prediction:

The sandbox style of play will be kind of like SWG where there is usually nothing to do that is notable, with PvP without a reward system (This will be due to early forced release because of publisher pressure) which will basically have the end result of whatever faction you are on fighting for control of the rare PvE encounters to increase the E-Peen. 2 months into it, Goons will infiltrate in mass population and run Naked Parades in towns for 2 months giving the game life, which will all die out by 2010. 6 months later, introduction of features that should have been in the 1st time around + Grassroots marketing campaign - Window of opportunity for gaining new players lost = Dead MMORPG.

Edit: I also see a lot of whining about why cannot there be a 3rd person view.

From yesterdays Q/A @ GameSNAFU Article - Your premiere gaming site with up to the minute new and information.

Quote:
Q: Is the game on schedule and could you tell us if you have a release date in mind yet?

A: The game is on schedule but we do not have a release date yet. As an independent company we have always planned on first releasing only the fundamental core of the game to make sure there’s an interest in it, thereafter immediately continue the development with the rest of the large number of planned features. As things look now, with the interest in the game and our rapid progress in development, we find ourselves wanting to add more and more of that planned stuff in before releasing the game. But we’ll see.

Personally i dont think the game will be out until atleast the end of the year.

They should probably change this then on their FAQ.

Q: When will it be released?
A: During summer 2009

Wow. Well, at least they are honest.

Game could still be released with half features late this summer, but with combat finished atleast. Who knows. And i'm just going to guess that the countdown on their webpage is for closed beta app's.

These guys are like 50x more professional then Aventurine and they got a game done in 8 years eheh.

That's the problem though. Some of these guys reportedly coming from UO should know that releasing a game with half it's features and expecting people to pay a monthly fee with promises of features that may or may not come to fruition because in all likelyhood, no one is going to last more than a month and they won't have funding, is the most retarded thinking in the world.

This whole thing just screams disaster.

Yeah we'll just have to see if they delay the game to finish these features or not. I chat with these devs and the CEO now and then and they are great guys and seem trustworthy enough, so if they realise they have to cut a feature out they will probably announce so soon.
