Yeah, people "Like" customizing their look. But no fantasy gamer buys MMO's with that as a major factor. It's absolutely trivial. Just ask WoW and Vanguard/EQ2, who couldn't be more of a contrast to each other in graphics---and population. The game will live and die on it's mechanics. That's definitely what they're banking on as well. Dumar will be along shortly to explain how they need to make this game. You all better pay attention, he'll be testing you on it the next 18 months.

+3 Internets | Looks interesting, but until they offer more details and there seems to be serious progress and coverage, vaporware (Dorkfall).

While impressive looking I see this becoming a lagfest for the larger guilds with 100+ members. The forum has only been activated for a few days but already some people are really trying to push for a single server game like Eve. :| I'm interested in seeing single servers but not at the cost of performance. I find it very amusing how much the Mortal forum looks like the darkfall forum. It's like they are doing everything in their power to steal Aventurine's fanbase. [edit] Now I'm noticing their forum is like the cross breed of the Age of Conan forum with the Darkfall forum ![]() Last edited by mutantmagnet : 04-10-2008 at 04:01 PM.

Also makes you wonder how itemization would be handled considering a spawn was "super-rare". Seems like their skill-based combat system will be more important than equipment. Finally, what about general trash mobs? How will they be respawned (or are they just referring to quest mobs and such)? Seems an interesting twist, but I'd like to see how they plan on fleshing it out.

| Eh, if I had to guess it looks like they plan make the pve help drive the pvp. Say every so often they add some new content kinda like Velious and contains a one-time event/mob/etc. that all the guilds will be battling for access to. Once someone beats it, boss is dead forever. Loots surely to be epic/unique until the next expansion, etc. If they don't totally screw it up could probably hit 200k subscribers I'd bet.

Who the hell knows how this game will turn out; the graphics look good, and honestly that's about the only fucking thing we know about it right now. And as well all know, good graphics is usually equal to piss poor performance. Nothing better than shitty FPS in MMOs, that really brings in the subscribers! Add in no-instancing and hundreds of players around at once, and you've got a sure fire winner. This kind of game sounds great, but as EVE clearly demonstrates the technology IS NOT THERE. It just isn't. Broadband connections can only handle so much. How much? Oh, I dunno, about a standard WoW raid worth of data? If the technology was there, then all MMOs would likely be designed very differently. I'll bet they can get anywhere from 50k to 3 million subscribers...well, IF they don't totally screw it up LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

| The only thing EVE has demonstrated is that you can fuck up scaling even with utterly dumbed-down combat model. What Mortal Online demonstrated is that you can get 2 pages filled on FOH board in less than a day by publishing just a pre-rendered movie and some choice features ripped from Darkfall / Dumar. |

| Nope i played 3rd person and it was way better, even at places like solusek. Also, they know how to push the right buttons, "ultima online" -> click "we are surprised to see how few have developed on its ideas" --> double click with steam out of my ears HUZZAH, i get to terrorize other players ! |

+1 Internets | While I do admit 3rd person is far superior to 1st person for these games, my main gripe is how it affects world building. I'd seriously like to live in Azeroth, because absolutely everyone has 15-30 foot tall ceilings. They should just call this game World of Cathedralcraft. No where in this game is claustraphobic or 'tight'. Every dungeon, every building, everything, is built for playing in 3rd person so the camera has enough space to give you a decent angle. Its good from a gameplay perspective, but I think overall it diminishes the game a little bit by basically forcing every 'dungeon' into a football stadium. WoW will never have a Solusek's Eye. WoW will never have a castle mistmoore. WoW will never have an unrest. |
