Sheesh, the dumbassery never ends. First, MDY is having thier way because theres no legal precedent at the moment to stop them. The whole fucking point of this action is for Blizzard to GAIN that legal precedent. Second, if Blizzard succeeds where others have failed, they pave the way for EVERY mmo to protect themselves, AND thier players, from lazy douchebags that fuck up the games they play.

Is the big picture coming into focus for you yet?

You still dont seem to grasp the very simple concept that a majority of RMT is occurring from REAL fucking players farming. How fucking stupid does someone have to be to think this lawsuit is going to affect anything on the grand scale. And you have no clue what "the whole fucking point" of blizzards motivations you are merely talking out of your ass. Seems vivendi is claiming that wowglider violates copyright. Even if botting was somehow banned so none existed (never gonna happen). The farming and RMTing would continue without the slightest dip. It will exist as long as there is a profit to be made.

Bots are not the fucking problem. The problem is that there is so much money to be made from these games and the right to do so isnt contested. What exactly dont you understand about this?

If bots could down Illidan, or get rank 1 in the Arena, they would have by now. This is something I seriously doubt will happen anytime soon given our current AI limitations.
Now look at the flipside of the coin for a second. This glider program kills, loots, sells, rezzes, repairs, and who knows what else, automatically. Currently. What happens when the program evolves into something that CAN do the things you mention?

I can see the headlines on mmo sites already:

Bots-a-lot guild takes down near impossible WoW boss that Player guild couldn't! Go-go bot team!

What exactly don't YOU understand about Blizzard working to GAIN THE RIGHT to contest it? Theres NOTHING that allows them to at the moment. Bots ARE a problem, because if they're allowed to run rampant in games without any legal recourse, EVERY fucking RMT company out there will use them. They'll no longer need to depend on human farmers. You think its a problem now? Wait until its perfectly fine to run bots in EVERY fuckin' mmo on the market because this guy won his case. What you're seeing right now is but a mere FRACTION of what you'll see at that point.

C'mon man. You can't REALLY be this blind.

Well one things for sure, even if your right and botting isnt as big a deal as some make it to be, putting this guy outa business isnt gonna hurt gaming in anyway thats for sure.

Nothing happens because the game takes place in instances. Oh noes all my guys are botted and decked out in Tier 7898. The games only fun because you play with other people that you enjoy. There is no endgame shit anymore in wow as someone else already pointed out in multiple other threads unless you pvp. If some faggot is off in his own instance botting wtf do you care for? It's not like he can go sell the sword of badassery that dropped.

I'm not sure whats going on here.. are you sad because people in third world countries won't be able to afford rice for their families? If you ban bots you still have to worry about 900 chinamen. If you allow bots you still have to worry about 900 chinamen bots. Their one in the same. I seem to remember when this first thing cropped up that blizzard wanted him to give them all the money he made from the bot. Since in their theory he's making money off of their game. This is all about money. It's not that blizzard somehow wants to smite bots so you can have a merry day in wow. They could give a fuck less about you!

I guess you just totally missed the points about what could happen if bots cannot be controlled, right?

(GUILD) YOU: "80 war lfg for instanceX for sword of badassery"........ (crickets........)
XYZ whispers: "everyone's botting man...... try later..... cya, loading up my farming bot and heading to the mall"

Wee.... FUN!

Again, stupidity abounds around here. When bots run rampant through a gameworld, and prices on the AH for simple mats reach such astounding costs that "actual" players can't afford them, how much "fun" is the game going to be for you then?

"WTS 1 heavy leather....... only 47659456 gold!".....(crickets........)

Sounds fun, doesn't it? I'm sure you'll be more than willing to spend your money to play such a game.

By all means, continue to believe this shit will have no ill-effect what-so-ever on the games you play. And yeah, i'm sure Blizzard thinks this is a great direction in which to take thier game

What will you say when people start using bots in pvp?
Your arguament would make sense if this was a single player game but its not. Even if people are in thier own instance, they are still part of 'my game'.

Why dont the people who love to bot start petitioning for seperate botting servers and non botting servers. THEY wont, you know why, botting is only fun when it gives you an unfair advantage against average Joe who doesnt bot. If everone on the server botted the game would just become pointless.

Unless the bot has a really good AI(which is highly unlikely), they'll just be a joke/free kill. And will get nowhere in Arena.

As he said, the win will be meaningless. You beat a shitty bot. On a server rampant with bots. Yay for you?

How do you go from this guy winning to = perfectly fine to run bots? You are going crazy with the hyperbole. I don't think we will see more people botting simply because it is ok to write a bot.

The point you're failing to grasp here, is that if Blizzard gains the ability of legal recourse against the authors of bot programs, the influx of new programs will slow dramatically because it'll be too financially risky for those that make them.
Yeah that has worked very well for torrents... amirite? Win or Lose it won't have any impact except on the guy they are sueing. Actually Blizzard has more to lose, if they don't win.

Answer this question for me. What keeps people from running bots now? It's the risk of getting caught and getting banned, and that isn't going to change if this guy wins the lawsuit.

Botting sucks, but Blizz should lose this one since they're trying to go after him on technical claims that have more important ramifications. The only legitimate claim they could have is that he costs them money. A few weeks with the accountants could clear it up real quick as to how much revenue was made and lost due to glider.

Because if Blizzard has no legal recourse, it gives free reign for every RMT company to use them in ANY game they wish. Had you actually read the documentation submitted, you would have seen that this guy is not only trying to make it legal for him to sell his bot program, but hes ALSO trying to get the district court to make it a non-bannable offense actionable by his customers against Blizzard. He doesn't want Blizzard "harrassing" his customers, because its bad for his business.

Account banning is spot on. Congrats. Its too bad you didn't realise that sanctioned botting will make it impossible for Blizzard to enforce bans should this guy actually win. And if you think it won't escalate exponentially, you're a fool.

Yeah, hyperbole. Keep dreamin'.

Already done. $18million a year over a three year period and counting.

Bots uptill now have been simple little programs made by people in thier basements to help them lvl. If people thought there was money to be made and some serious programers put some thought and effort into it, I really doubt a human will ever stand a chance against a bot.

Even the best of the best grandmaster dont stand a chance against a good chess program, and mmos arent nearly as complex as chess, we aint all "grandmasters of mmos".
