I never agree with Zehn, but yeah, there is no other/better way.
You go from 1k hp to 10K hp you feel "stronger" "happier" and dont regret spending
a gazillion hours online. Sure stuff hits 10 times harder, but thats not important.

Might as well have Dumar come in here and talk about how loot needs to be done right.

You know what? Fuck it. It would take me hours to keep debunking the rampant retardation in these threads. It's just not worth my time or effort anymore.

I propse a new rule, any thread that mentions both EverQuest and WoW within the first 10 posts should be rickshawed. Anybody that makes a thread with both in the fucking title gets banned.
Personally I can't wait until there is another popular game when we start getting threads titled, "JiggleMy Balls going the way of WOW and EQ, is this the end of the genre?????"

Then we can start pissing on each other saying JiggleMy Balls has no community and that WOW's community was so much better because Barren's chat was so awesome. Then the new 12 year olds come on this board saying how they can't believe EQ existed, just like black and white TV.

Yeah.. I can't wait for that.

Oh noes, mankind comparing something they are experiencing now to something they have experienced in the past. Oh my fucking god we better stop recording temperature and stop giving out record lows and highs because its totally ruining the extent to which I can enjoy today's weather.

I think in the future the game's spells/abilities will go a step further and maybe drop from high end dungeons. Maybe Inscriptionists will be able to craft and sell lesser versions of those spells, but the best kind will drop from raids.

Hopefully some time in the near future adventurers who have killed everything from Lucifron to Illidan+ will finally have greater knowledge of their class than some level 50-60 gnomes and dwarves in Ironforge who will run the other way when faced with any of the adversaries that player characters have dealt with.

I understand expansions need to grow but just doing "we'll make the next bosses have double hp" and "the gear have double stats" and call it an upgrade bullshit.

Discuss.
It's all relative so who gives a shit?

Rest of the thread? tl;dr

Playable characters from the WC series? Not many. However, still a shitload of content. Emerald Dream is my prediction for after WoTLK.

Yeah, they've only had half a dozen portals with 63ish level Dragonkin in front of em since release. It's about time to make that shit important!

On a side note, Dak's got a good idea. Another idea would be one time usable stat increase items. A consumable "level" if you will. Add them to PVP as well. You kill a major omfg wtf hard boss, and he drops a vial for everyone in the raid. 5 to all stats, something minor but it's a tangible increase that everyone gets just for slaying the dragon. Arena teams above 2100 can get the pvp version of the vial. One time use, consumes, completes a quest so you can't do it again, voila. Spread that out and do it with whatever you will. Maybe the vial's quest deal when you click it offers you different kinds of permanent stat increases, such as rogues wanting to get melee haste, casters getting permanent spell haste, whatever. Maybe only one vial drops, whatever, scale the reward to fit the fight and the frequency. Have lesser ones drop in 5 mans, but with stacking effects. You change gear, you always have this permanent bonus.

Easy concept to toss around, and considering those quests in the barrens give you a permanent point of spirit when you complete them (hunting the named shit near camp taurajo) it's already in the game and working.

Ok

Ok Zhen I'll bite, since you are typing especially hard on your keyboard. Tell me in my post where I compare MMO's to the real life sport of basketball?

My discussion was on whether or not an MMO could ever simulate the randomness of AI vs gamer all without making stats go bananas.

Having a discussion about whether there is the possibility at all of "leveling" game play ever being changed, I thought was where the thread was going, before you declared you are the emperor of discussion start and stopping.

People don't like random, especially when the random is NPCs with 4 million hps doing 10k dps.

Random vs. another person who is relatively equal to you? Sure. That's fine in a game of NBA 2K8. Random vs. Illidan who decides that he will drop the flames in wacked out places while eyebeaming the largest crowd of people? Not so much.

That's not permanent.

I agree

Two bit,

I agree. Well then how about some world randomness of the story, dungeon layouts, gear, etc. I don't have the answer, but...

I do notice how there is a bridging gap between the two play styles in Wow right now, with PvE and Arena, with arena simulating a mini NBA 2k8.

They obviously think this version is worth a lot of money, by the tournaments, sponsors etc.

Will this F up your game though by introducing variables that are catering to the random competitive MMO lovers, or can they find a balance to satisfy both? Which play style will win out and cause Blizzard to rethink maybe even having the two in the same "world. The jury is out.

this

And as much as I too hate the real world analogy, that basketball one is pretty good, but not for how Salshun wanted it to be.

Yeah, that actually happens. The kid who rules the Pee Wee league shows up to his first day of high school JV ball and everyone really is twice as good. Then comes junior college, Div 2, and then the perennial top 20 schools. So there you are, king badass player of Division 1, winner of the Final Four MVP trophy, hero of the masses, and you go to the NBA, and in your first game, you try that awesome spin move into the lane like you've done a million times before, and Kevin Garnett blocks your shot into the upper deck, you get held scoreless and you get dropped to the deck a few days later when you think you can take a charge from Shaq, and end up on your ass with a broken ankle.

It's...it's....it's as if the poor basketball player grinds and grinds his whole life, and they just keep mudflating the game, preventing him from being able to score 100 points a quarter over his totally inferior opponents forever and ever.

Zehn's right, real life analogies are so retarded.

MMOs mudflate. The term "MUD-flate" pays homage to a system that has been happening in these kinds of games since the BBS MUD days of the 70s. Thanks for the groundbreaking and previously undiscussed topic of "progression of a multi-user dungeon, is there a better way than with items or levels?" 30 years later, people still think they are the first visionary who is lofty enough in their thinking that they have stumbled onto a question none so far has ever been l33t enough to ponder.

And the answer hasn't changed in all that time.

Every idea in this thread sounds like AA's from EQ, just a different name.
