Word. I certainly don't blame the tanks, I mean, I don't even want to go Resto because I'd feel gimped whenever soloing anything.

On a related note, can someone explain how Kara's lock out timer works? We got up to (and failed at) the mage guy who summons elementals, so when can I join a new Kara? Is it like a week after the first boss dies?

Resets on Tuesday. I think the command you can use to check your lockout timers is /raidinfo.

You can take another group in if they didn't progress past where you left without you, you'll just be at where you left off.

For future reference, click Raid on the character window and click Raid Info.

You can start the raid tanking progression with the Cudgel of Consecration from Heroic MgT. From there you can upgrade from Zul Aman into top five or six mainhands for a Prot pally tank.

PVP grinding is not necessary to gear a pally tank.

And the gear issue is that it takes paladins more effort to reach uncrit/uncrush. But given some of the tards I see post on the WoW forums with seriously sick armory profiles, someone from this forum should be able to do it in short enough order.

It honestly doesn't take much to tank non-heroics. Heroics you just need to be uncrittable and have a decent shield and you can slowly begin to amass lewtz. I think when I first tanked heroics I was wearing mostly heal gear. At the beginning being able to hold agro and not get one-shot is the most important thing (with a decent healer). The rest comes in time.

Blizzard Entertainment - Press Release

BLIZZARD® AUTHENTICATOR OFFERS ENHANCED SECURITY FOR WORLD OF WARCRAFT® ACCOUNTS 2008 ANNOUNCED

Keychain token generates unique codes used to help prevent unauthorized account access

IRVINE, Calif. –- June 26, 2008 -– Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today introduced an optional extra layer of security for World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Designed to attach to a keychain, the lightweight and waterproof Blizzard® Authenticator is an electronic device that generates a six-digit security code at the press of a button. This code is unique, valid only once, and active for a limited time; it must be provided along with the account name and password when signing in to the World of Warcraft account linked to it.

This optional security measure will be available at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational, which takes place June 28-29 in Paris, France. In addition, the Blizzard Authenticator will be made available for purchase via Blizzard's online store in the near future for a cost of $6.50.

"It's important to us that World of Warcraft offers a safe and enjoyable game environment," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "One aspect of that is helping players avoid account compromise, so we're pleased to make this additional layer of security available to them."

To learn more about the Blizzard Authenticator, please visit http://www.blizzard.com/security-token.

About Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Best known for blockbuster hits including World of Warcraft® and the Warcraft®, StarCraft®, and Diablo® series, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. (www.blizzard.com), a division of Vivendi Games, is a premier developer and publisher of entertainment software renowned for creating some of the industry's most critically acclaimed games. Blizzard's track record includes ten #1-selling games and multiple Game of the Year awards. The company's online-gaming service, Battle.net®, is one of the largest in the world, with millions of active users.
Hmm not a bad idea. for $6.50 I might get one just because its so cheap. I've never had problems with hackers stealing my accounts but so many people have (even many on these forums) that it might not be a bad idea.

I could see it being annoying having to enter a second password every time I log into WoW but not as annoying as having my account stolen and waiting for it to be recovered. Shouldn't be to hard to keep track of since it'll fit on my keychain and I'm not likely to lose my car keys.

I see now. You're one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. It must be frustrating to go through life like that.

Agreed, when I first started tanking heroics I used CC and shield blocking etc to not die. I didn't have huge aggro issues but 3-4 mobs on me meant I would insta-gib.

Kept it long enough(with a mix of raiding at whatever level you feel comfortable with) and it became easy. I do not have a single piece of gear beyond badge/kara and I can AE tank every single heroic now as a warrior. Just keep at it and it will get easy.

It's funny that way, once you are fully geared I've found it's detrimental and takes more work when CC is in play. Unless a pull is 4+ I find it easier to just tank all 3.

yeah my mom uses one to access work from home. Except one time hers got desynced had to go through some crazy long process to get it replaced.

its actually pretty cool, its like a thick credit card with an LCD screen on it, and a code that changes every 10 seconds.

I've been tanking a lot (something I was afraid to do in the expansion), and was working on gearing myself for heroics as a warrior. Finally got myself up to decent defense and around 11k hp, so I decided to take the plunge and go prot tonight. Now, I was prot in pre-bc tanking Naxx stuff... but jesus christ, the difference in threat management was night and day. Totally forgot how awesome it was to be a prot warrior. I did two groups tonight and made friends because of how awesome my tanking was. Couple guys kept sending me tells afterwards of how great it was. Hell yeah.

thats odd, you were scared to tank in BC but Naxx was no problem? Perhaps i never played prot enough in pre BC outside of UBRS to really know how threat generation worked.

the game has a serious lackluster for good tanks, so being praised is pretty common if you know how to do your job well, i got my badge legs/bp recently which put my warrior to 15600ish hps, well over the defense cap 24% dodge 20% parry/block which is alright i guess and i just pretty much instantly lost interest in him once i got that BP because i honestly have no way of getting upgrades unless i do heroics for the ring/belt or literally transfer him to another server because hyjal is absolutely horrible for finding a guild.

Eh.. I had played for awhile on my old warrior, and started with a brand new guild in MC. We all learned together, so when Naxx came out it was just another thing to tank.

When I got up to tanking level in BC, my HP was at 9000 and I had awful gear. Was totally afraid to tank any of the level 70 instances because I didn't want to mess up and/or be ridiculed for my gear.

The pvp cudgel is just a damn good tankadin weapon that you are sure to get once you've done your grind. The cudgel of consecration can take a while to get if you're not lucky and it's not really better than the pvp one (with S2 now being available, I believe the pvp option is actually quite superior, it's on par with Zul'aman's).

Everything else as a new tankadin has to be pure tanking stuff. I main tanked Kara the first time I got in with my paladin, all I had was my S1 cudgel, instance/quest blues and 110-115 ilvl greens, I was 3-4% or so from uncrushable when we started and was actually uncrushable by the time I tanked Nightbane mid way through the instance after I looted a few upgrades and gemmed/enchanted them on the spot. Trick is to go all out on avoidance, gem dodge on red sockets, etc. Once you have the required avoidance, you slowly switch to more stamina as you hover above the cap.

Aside from the weapon and maybe a shield (Im not a fan of those shields for tanking, as most blues are superior for a pure tanking point of view), pvp gear is completely worthless for a tankadin. Pvp stuff can do for regular instances and some heroic I guess, but even then you would be better served with actual tanking blues and greens.
