+36 Internets | VG leveling is actually pretty well made, since it pleases both sides of the leveling crowd. You get more xp while grouping, but you can still solo if for some reason you don't like/don't want grouping. Such as weird hours, just logging for 10-15mins, shitty class and so on. I actually soloed most of my time in VG, and was leveling rather fast. Much slower than WoW, but at a decent rate that didn't give me the feeling I was playing a korean mmo(the fact it was quest based and not grind based helped). It's a much better system than forced grouping in my opinion. It worked before, and can probably still work(FFXI is still forced grouping I guess?), but I'm definitely not going to play such a game, I hate being dependant on pugs and I dislike having to setup hours and shit to meet with people to level, I just like to log in, level as much as I want, then log off and do something else. That can mean leveling 16hours in a row, or leveling 2hours then watching movies for the rest of the night. I'd be tempted to play VG again if I wasn't raiding 5nights a week again due to 2.4 on wow, and still playing lotro on the side. Guess it'll wait a bit, the more stuff they patch in, the better the game gets anyway, so trying it later won't be an issue. |

+7 Internets | Good to hear about levelling, I really always hoped that they would develop a game that rewarded players that soloed but also rewarded those who wanted to group. VG isn't perfect in that regards, but closer to what I'd like to see. |

| First off, /wave Faille, it's been ages and ages since FFXI. ![]() Second, as much as they initially screwed up with GU4, it honestly did not make raiding impossible. My guild on Xeth continued killing the same shit we had previously when buffs were dropping and we were lagging and have progressed on mobs that they "fixed" such as Shylosia. As someone who started off in beta as well, Vanguard definitely has come a long way. As has been mentioned previously they've fixed many classes and have the remaining classes slated for fixes. Hitching and framerates have seen significant improvements and they've fixed a lot of game play. Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty wrong with Vanguard and they've made some pretty boneheaded design decisions (G4 loot paramount among them). But when you compare the game as it was at launch with as it is now, there is a huge difference, and the culmative difference is positive. |

| Spent all evening working on step 2 of the flying mount quest. The part in Nusibe Necroplis is freaking brutal. I had no clue that the zone was actually that big. I did the God King a few times and my Rahz weapon, but there is a fuckton more zone. The fight to the Pharoah is insane. Thats alot of fucking mobs and zone. Was constanly over 40 people in the zone, and the whole 5 hours we ran into 1 group. Thats how big it is.

| Yes its worth restarting. There is a fairly health population around but you do have to move to them as certain areas tend to be more populated and certain level ranges. The world is still huge but with the riftways its fairly easy to jump around at a small cost. Keep in mind this game does not issue retard water wings when you order the soup. Its not WoW. If anything its more like EQ and what EQ should be if it was redone. All the people bitching about missing EQ would probably enjoy Vanguard at this stage. Just don't expect WoW because its nothing like it. Its also nothing like the original EQ but a nice combination of both. Best thing about Vanguard: Class diversity and they are all well done and the other players. Every PUG I've been in so far has been outstanding. The retard quotient is much lower here the players are more mature and more experienced.

| The one thing I did enjoy about VG were it's classes. Did a pretty good job. I tried to play again in Dec with the free trial, but combat was still buggy as shit. Also some areas just bugged on you (terrain geometry). |

People.. the potential is here, and was there at the beginning. And now when people are starting to re-up and servers are getting more crowded....the devs will take notice. ($$) It's just gonna get better. So if you feel like giving it another go, I would recommend it at the warmest. If you keep an open mind, I bet you won't get disappointed. I've never wrote this much on the fohboard before, cause of my accent... But I'm no noob to mmos, so don't mind my postcount. -Tecliz

+7 Internets | Is there a good place to read about optimizing for performance? I remember awhile back there were certain things that really helped. Generally I'm running around 45fps on medium, and can run high but sometimes if I go into a town my computer takes a dump for a few seconds. Also getting this weird thing where randomly my FPS will slow down to 5 for a few seconds. It's not chunking because it happens when I'm stationary, and my harddrive isn't moving either, any ideas? |

Not to derail, but I'm a computer/hardware/software technician and IKT consultant. So if you PM me with specs I can probably help you out with optimization. If none else replies in thread though. -Tec Europa Tribes

+7 Internets | Running a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz processor with 2gb ram. For video card I'm running a Geforce 7900GS. I'm not sure what else you need to know. I'm sure I could upgrade the card and add another 2gb of ram, but just don't feel like upgrading at the moment. |

| Your specs should be fine with settings adjusted, and shouldn't have anything do to with the chunks when stationary. But the harddrive statement makes me wonder. Can you tell me if the harddrive is IDE or SATA, on same partition or disk as Windows installation. If IDE is it on the same ide cable as windows (%systemroot%), and what motherboard? Sorry for derail, delete post if needed. |

+16 Internets | There's no free trial type deal for Vanguard yet is there? Sure would like to give it a try but really don't want to plunk down cash on a game I might not enjoy for more than half an hour. |
