| Pretty sure that WoW UI is a joke to see how much shit he can get on the screen at once. Half of that crap doesn't even apply to hunters. Rhino isn't bad. Better than Twiggy by far.

| The mounts are a perfect example of the frustation that can be VG. Half of them seem inspired (halflings on giant ants, the rhino, the goblin mount), half are utterly retarded (twiggy, kojanis on lobsters, raki on gataro -- not that lobsters are bad per se but wtf do they have to do with Kojani humans?) And I played it. Last night. I locked up again 6 times, knocked around everywhere, and cannot find the fun. I have tried a lot of starting classes and races, and areas belonging to those. Can you point me in the right direction to where the fun is and the hitching doesn't happen? (And believe it or not, I am being serious) I am not trying to troll, but you know me, I love colorful adjectives and the fun marker doesn't point out on my compass in game. Nor do I see a beacon of light shining down like in SWG telling me where to go for the fun. Here is an example: I have fun playing Mass Effect because to me it has a rich story line, decent character development, and I feel like I am making an impact on the story. I like the control mechanisms, and how it feels like a third party shooter but if you play it that way you are dead meat. I like the music, the weapons, the variety in where you can travel. I like being able to advance my characters armor, weapons, upgrading those with trinkets... It gives it an MMO feel of continuity. I like how developing charm opens up more conversation options. I like the quaint humor of some of the chatacters I play with in my party or otherwise. I love how every system feels different, like a new world ready to explore. The voice acting is great. I like the many options there are to either go out on your own or follow the main storyline, but even when you do that you have a couple options to follow. It isn't as non linear as Oblivion, but what else besides an MMORPG is. And that is why I find Mass Effect fun. But yet every back of the box post I read here, always says, "I am having fun". So, tell me why you are having fun, or what is fun about the game, or please, point me in the direction where you think it is fun so I can go there and see if it is fun too. Because as of now, I am about to trademark the word Fun in this thread.

They retuned stronghold to small group, get up to the roofs and start jumping -- that's pretty sweet.

+29 Internets | Fun is in the group play and dungeons. I can't think of a single game where grinding outdoors or solo questing has ever been fun. The upside in VG is that you have dungeons starting at level 7 or so. Riftseekers in the low teens is fantastic and a pretty big dungeon to boot. As for UIs, I use myUI: VGInterface : myUI v3.1 : myUI v3.1 http://www.vginterface.com/downloads...1208612478.jpg Core seems more minimalistic though: VGInterface : CoreUI3 : CoreUI3 http://www.vginterface.com/downloads...1208612475.jpg |

Do you think it would be wise for gamers here to wait until GU5 until they plunk money down on the game if they are not subscribed? Might keep them longer if they do not have to deal with the frustration of that.

I certainly think that it is reasonable to wait for a free trial before putting money down on any PC game, let alone VG. I have no insight into SOE's VG dev process but it does seem likely that they will release a trial soon after they put in the hitching fixes in GU5 and GU6 (so maybe 3-4 months I'd guess at their current rate -- usual caveats, grain of salt, etc.)

+20 Internets | I'm the opposite of Tad, I hate the Kojani starting area and I think starting there at release was one of the factors in making me quit the game after a couple of days. Something about the deliberately asian setting completely broke the immersion of a fantasy world for me, and even the more traditional areas on the continent (wood elf starting area for example) that are generally amazing to look at are still sprinkled with the odd asian influences and that just ruined it for me. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with asian architecture or culture, but I don't really see how it has a place in a game that isn't based around that history. I would rather have seen them create a new culture and unique architecture even if it had a minor asian influence. Just as a disclaimer though, I never saw Tsang's Tomb or anything during my time there, maybe that would've changed my experience a bit. Thestra is the only place I've enjoyed starting out in. The quests are pretty basic, but still decently fun. More importantly, they flow well and are actually fairly easy to complete, unlike some other areas. You have a low level brownie dungeon you can hit probably as early as level 4, and by 10+ can go to the nearby Riftseeker's Torrent, which I found enjoyable. Ultimately though, it depends on if you have anyone to talk to and run around with. It is possible to solo obviously, but the game doesn't really shine in that area. Maybe running a dungeon with some people that aren't retarded would show you the potential fun of VG. |

However, with the improved riftway system, a Qalia newbie zone is only a click away now!

Usually this only happens when the CC info isn't complete (i.e. I think they make you re-enter the security code twice). Alternatively, you may not have entered your billing info in the payment source screen. Have to do that then go ack to subscription screen, select payment source, enter security code and go. Yeah it's retarded.

Though back then the road from New Targonor to Three Rivers was full of level 35-40 spiders and it was a pain in the ass. Still, it reminded me of EverQuest and running my gnome enchanter from Mekalia on the elf continent to Freeport, and then to Highpass Hold to get his spells. That was on the racewar server though, so I had to sneak by high-level mobs and some guild full of Japs who were farming Highpass Hold. Last edited by Snugglebear : 04-19-2008 at 10:43 AM. | |
