Well, this thread has lured me into VG, and into actually posting here rather than lurking. The one thing I find most annoying is I can't find any basic information about the game (it took me forever to figure out how to change my bind point). Could I get help with a few questions? Or at least pointed somewhere I can find the answer?

1. What are caravans?
2. What are fellowships? How are they different from guilds?
3. Is it true that finishers are triggered by critical hits? I'm not 100% what causes them to pop up.
4. When you have multiple finishers, is there a way to control which is applied by default when you use the "F" key? Or are you stuck manually selecting between them?
5. Whats up with the weaknesses I see listed on some abilities?
6. What are suggested attribute allocations for disciples? So far I've been maxing Str, than Dex, than Vit but I'm not sure I should be focusing on other stats.

Thanks,
Pel

Monk or ranger, for someone who will probably spend some time soloing due to limited playtime?

Well I should have a level20 something Disc on some server and a bloodmage somewhere. If they're not on the correct server I'll just reroll.

Are discs any good anymore? I know I quit because they nerfed them into oblivion and I could hardly solo a 3dot equal con. Granted they needed a nerf because after 20 minutes I managed to solo a 5dot purple con back at release.

What Tad said about rangers vs raid is true, usually more melee focused than ranged, but there is a use for ranged. Lots of mobs have various ae effects and rather than stress your healers, it can be good to stay back with ranged. A good dex/vit/wis range build can dish out good damage over time as well as solo quite well.

1. What are caravans?
Join someone in a caravan, log out for a bit, when you log back in, you'll have the option of loading in where the caravan 'leader' is currently located or bound.

2. What are fellowships? How are they different from guilds?
This is an exp sharing group, whether you are online or off.

3. Is it true that finishers are triggered by critical hits? I'm not 100% what causes them to pop up.
correct

4. When you have multiple finishers, is there a way to control which is applied by default when you use the "F" key? Or are you stuck manually selecting between them?
Best bet is to make macros, i.e., /cast "Finisher Attack"

5. Whats up with the weaknesses I see listed on some abilities?
These allow for extra damage/effect with attacks that exploit a specific weakness

6. What are suggested attribute allocations for disciples? So far I've been maxing Str, than Dex, than Vit but I'm not sure I should be focusing on other stats.
Being a healer base, you may wish to add some to wis for mana pool, but I've seen all sorts of builds for discs depending on what you want to do with them.

To add a few stuff:
Caravans are only used for fast transportation and stuff, but they became quite obsolete with riftways. Fellowships, I'm not sure, did you mean brotherhoods? Or are there both I forgot. Anyway brotherhood is shared xp equally between all members, fellowship not sure.

Finishers are triggered by special attack crits only(not white dmg), and also don't proc off other finishers crits, or reactive crits(like the crap you get after you dodge or block and so on). To use the various finishers, make macros/bind them directly(abilities book drag). A decent macro for example is to cast a finisher that has a cooldown first, then add the less powerful no cooldown one, so when you press your key it uses whatever is available.

As for disc stats, wis is mostly useless. You should never cast mana heals but like, once or twice early in the fight if the pull is big and you didn't get enough time for your hots setups, or when you need to heal yourself cause the tank sucks. All the other healing is endurance, jin, or free. For leveling, you want to get str and a mix of dex/vit depending on your solo/group balance(more vit than dex if you group often, more dex than vit if you solo often). For raiding you'll probably replace most of the dps stats with a mix of con/vit, and a bit of dps stats, but depends on your role I guess.

Speaking of stats, is con really worth anything? I put on a belt with 2 con 8 hp and it added a total of 9 hp. I've got like 50 con and it says that's adding something like 41 hp. Why on earth would anyone put points into it when it's adding single digit HP? Is it no some kind of exponential growth so by lvl 30 it's adding 50hp a point?

For disciple stats go vit / wis / dex. You will use a lot of mana based heals in a group / raid setting and you're going to need that extra mana pool. Endurance and jin based heals won't cut it. The jin heal is small, instant cast, and only good for saving someone so you or another healer can get a heal in before they die. The endurance heals require getting several moves off and in a lot of cases won't be fast enough to keep someone healed up.

Think I've finally decided on ranger.

Anyone have a race recommendation? It's hard to find good current info about class builds for this game.

Still patching for a while so I have time to research :P

Im a Ranga and i chose halfling, I have no complaints atm.

Other than that, I really dont think race plays a HUGE roll in this game, in my opinion at least.

Halfling racial is a instant agro loss and 30 second agro reduction in all attacks, so could be useful on boss fights, balls out dps for a bit.

That sounds like a useful enough racial that I might forgo my usual hatred of playing asslings.
