Dk's are cool for no other reason than you get shadowstep at a very low level. It's not even just shadowstep, it's like shadowbackstab, since you activate a skill and then use shadowstep to poof behind the guy and use that skill. Plus, if I remember right, they recently made adjustments to DK to effectively tank with a 2H weapon. Someone else can verify that.

I'll echo the low level loot comments too. When me and a buddy rerolled, we really enjoyed finding dungeons in the 10-20 range and going in them, worried about dying and shit, but every time we came to a named, he would drop GARBAGE. Absolute garbage, and we didn't even have good equipment to begin with.

One major question, what classes flat out suck? I'm thinking about tanking or healing, and don't want to pick one of them that is absolutely not up to par with the rest.

One class I really enjoyed before was Psionicist, how are they now compared to others? Also how is Necro in terms of balance with the rest? And just for kicks how about Ranger?
I dont think any classes really flat out suck. They are all pretty damned beneficial. Though i think Psi's are the least played class, but they are getting a revamp soon. Every guild wants necros due to their meat buff. They do good dps as well. I know the guild i was in was hurting for a necro for a little while, but now we got an everyday necro player. Same with a PSI, but 2 for a guild would be great.

... Only a mental midget could find those thrilling. Sure the randomness of needing a crit before I could hit one of them almost counted as something approaching excitement.

The problem is that 90% of random drops are shaman drops; most loot is really nice off nameds.

I play on Sartok, so most of my views are probably different from everyone elses being as its a full on FFA pvp server.

That being said, I love vanguard. Theres about 20 times as much content at any given level than that of wow. You can go in a random level 10-20 dungeon and have it be more expansive than the largest raid zone.

The dungeon layouts really have that EQ feel to them. Every class is unique and useful. My main is a monk and i'm enjoying them immensely both in pvp and pve.

so have they merged the servers or something?

I used to be on seradon and I only quit because the population was so low and people were sparse

Fired up a necro since I enjoyed that class before. Game definitely feels more optimized and a bit more fun now. Still don't understand why my cloth armor is shiny.. but I'll take it.

I'm on Nekoto on Seradon if anyone has a low level guild I can join.

They merged down to 5 servers.

Few weeks ago, I looked into playing VG again. When I first played, it was already a bit after release, and a bit before server merge/soe takeover. The game was in a rather decent state, but I was happy I had a good computer because it wasn't running THAT fine. I quit however because the pvp server was full of cheaters/dupers which made it rather boring, and I didn't feel like rerolling on a new server.

So I looked into VG, but eventually got caught into playing lotro instead. I read the forum a few days ago and it was like a storm of whinning about the new patch that broke tons of stuff. However amidst that storm, I read that since soe took over, they fixed a lot of classes that were totally shitty back when I played(monks disciples mostly) and made a lot of good changes(travelling and code/stability).

If I had to give my opinion, VG and LOTRO are rather similar only that where vanguard has a bigger world, more classes/races and some very interesting systems(I loved diplomacy/crafting, even though it was way too grindy after the first few hours of it, also loved casting while moving, or the hybrid classes bloodmage/disciple), LOTRO has more polish on about everything, from quests(both in variety and lore) to classes.

But is it worth checking out? Definitely I'd say. If you're bored of wow, vanguard currently might be the next best thing, along lotro. Just that vanguard totally failed its launch contrary to lotro, so the name is soiled. Can see the first replies in this thread, they've been censored, but you can imagine the type of shit it was.

AoC is coming soon, and as far as I'm concerned, it will just go into that category too. Games that are decent, but not good enough to dent wow's market share, and that you might like if you test them. AoC launch will probably end closer to VG's than LOTRO's though, so you might want to wait a few months, and VG would be good to fill that wait.

Found an old installation on my other drive so I'm patching it up right now. 2 hours or so on the update which is to be expected and I'll get to see where all my old characters got sent with the server merges.

Edit:

Played for a few hours tonight and had a blast with my little Diciple. Didn't want to dust off my Bard who is in his 40's because I want to get the feel of things before i go tooling around with groups in the higher level range but so far its a refreshing change. Lots to like about this game now that its stable. If only it could have been this way at release.

Felt the same way when I rejoined last night. When the game came out it really was terrible in all regards to stability and optimization. Here's to hoping I have a better run this time around.

Aye, it's awesome they put Ancient Cyclops and Jboots in there!
If anyone plays on Halgar and want to group up, shoot me a tell on either Tecliz or Ellyrion

There are a couple of us in raid guilds on Seradon but the officers (of which I am not one) of my guild (SV) prefer apps be 48 though you can participate in the app channel before that I think (talk to one of the officers). Don't know about BoW (kcxiv) or anyone else but I'd think it was similiar. Generally I don't think you'll have a problem finding a raiding guild with a cleric though you may get stuck in group four for a while. As is usual there always seems to be a slight dearth in the number of healers.
