In today's gaming market, are they seriously not offering a free trial to try and attract people to try the game?

They will offer a free trial once the game has completely and utterly shit the bed, like most incompetently run MMO's, is my guess.

That's pretty fucking sad if true. I somehow found this guy's blog and it got me slightly interested in trying the damn thing.

Journeys with Jaye

Fuck that though if they can't even be bothered to offer up a free trial.

Isn't the game like $9.99 now or something? The free month basically pays for the entire game.

No, thats Tabula Rasa on Amazon.com heh. The game isn't ready for a free trial. It has come leaps and bounds since release, but the hitching and shit they're soon fixing (see Kc's post) is atrocious in the big areas. While any of us on this board can get past it, we aren't the people they are targetting with a free trial. It's getting there, but it won't be ready for a free trial for at least 6 more months probably. While any of us can navigate through FPS lag and still end up exactly where we pointed ourselves 15 seconds after the game catches up, the average person (who pays the bills) can't. He'll end up in a pack of mobs pissed and dead and quit the game on the spot.

I have a sick PC and still this issue persists, this combined with other (albeit minor now compared to other shit) will really turn off the mass appeal. Fixing the hitching, and I'm not talking about zoning, and shoring up a few classes will make the game miles better and allow them that mass appeal to release a trial. Fact is its SOE, and while its in the Station stable now, the station isn't near as valuable since they raised the price. The game has to appeal to a wide market, at this point Vanguard is all about profitability, you can find a group in a heartbeat but if you don't have the determination to deal with the little issues they have now, you'll get frustrated and quit. This game has to appeal to the step mom to neglects her kid on Wednesday night, not the single 20-30 year old guys who cruise FOH.

It's not there yet.

I agree with what you said. I completely enjoy the game, but I don't think a free trial would grab many people at this point.

I paid 40$ for it today at circuit shitty.

However I have seen online for 30$.

Odds are however that they realize the folks starving for what they think to be a decent game probably outweigh the freetards.

I have like 10 characters on Seradon including a level 41 Cleric, I just cant seem to get into them, I think I want to start over fresh on a new server.

Anyone want to start some characters on a server other than Seradon?

AIM: UTBBOP

I will be around, get at me!

My husband and I played throughout beta and for a few weeks after release. We quit for all the reasons many did at release. I'm thinking of possibly getting back into VG after reading this thread but know nothing about the game these days. Is there any good informational sites you guys could recommend so I could get an idea for the classes, quests, gear, etc?

I was also curious about classes. We played on the FFA PvP server (can't remember the name and not sure what it is now a days after the server merge) as a bear shaman and druid to low 20s. We primarily duo because of sporadic gaming sessions with a small baby, but are happy to group when possible. Could anyone recommend some class combos that would work well with this? We could always stick with our druid/shaman but a) I don't know what the PvP server is like now for non twinked noobies and b) how viable bear shamans are these days (seemed like everyone was phoenix back when we played, I just chose bear so we had a little tank for our duo).

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Any of you guys that were warriors that can help me out?

Just did KE and was fully tanking (Paladin same level in the group too). I had a lot of trouble holding hate on entire encounters. I could hold single or two mobs pretty well, but the healer would usually take a 3rd or sometimes the second and it would be incredibly hard for me to get it back. I've only got taunt and some attack that adds hate so not sure what I can do? Just looking for some tips. I was DPSing as much as I could, but at level 16 I don't have too much and also not many hate abilities.

Also.. the paladin would autoattack and peel mobs off of me, that normal?

Just going by this thread, Paladins have some very nice DPS early on so that could be why he's peeling it off you. You really answered your other question already; you only have a few abilities, so if you're using them all, that's all you can do.

I'm gonna take that one guy's suggestion and roll on Xeth. Think I might try a necro, since my other choice (bard) seems kinda FOTM. On my limited time on Seradon there was always at least 1 LFG if not 2.

Well I found out from another warrior that we have a defensive stance at level 11 but our trainers don't tell us about it. Apparently I need to go to the dwarf starting area to get it. Would've helped me immensely.

I've got no inside information but SOE is unlikely to offer a free trial until they put their new anti-hitching code in -- which they'll be doing over the next month or three and as Kcxiv mentioned when they've put in the newbie trial island in GU5.
