+13 Internets | Huge difference between cast bar while moving and instants. I can see why people might prefer one, but the way wow is now it just would NOT work. Instant spells are balanced against the fact that they're castable on the move. No matter how much you pillar rape you can't stop and cast a huge spell while doing it unless you or your teammate is somehow snaring the person chasing you for instance. Every class has plenty they can do while moving, I mean do you seriously go into VG and circlestrafe around every mob just because you can? You don't NEED to move most of the time so who cares? |

| I don't need to play an MMORPG. I don't need to do a lot of things. I do like to play an MMO. And I do like casting while moving. Casting while moving as Pyros and Ayeshala note just 'feels better.' In the same way that WoW UI 'feels better' because it very responsive (as compared to say EQ or LOTORO or VG (though VG comes close when you're not lagged ;-) ). You don't need that kind of UI but once you've used it you don't like anything that isn't nearly as responsive. And yes you are often moving a lot in VG -- say when one of the raid mobs punts you 50 feet (because you forgot to equip your Xenn cloak) you start casting as you're running back (well if you can -- I'm a monk not much I can do but strafe with shurikens as I'm running back).

| I love moving. I fully approve of moving when casting, for every single spell. Either that, or spread the gay equally and make more melee stand still all the time. I had to be careful to use Slam in WoW b/c of the damn casting time, and I didn't really feel that added something to my class. They could just incentivize standing still, and then add knockbacks as another way to fuck with casting. +25% to heal/dmg if you don't move. Fist rogue comes up and uses tackle/shove/bitchslap on you to make you move a bit and lose the bonus. Of course casters still need something other than "root" as a way to fuck with melee. That shit is gay. Playing red light/green light with a caster is in no way fun, and there is plenty of room for innovation here. Having not played VG, I have to resort to WoW examples. Pardon me. Please translate yourself. |

| Having a spell or ability cancel because you moved, a cat stepped on your keyboard, you hit a movement key while putting down your headphones, or you brushed the keyboard while you were trying to prevent your beer from being spilt just isn't "fun." I got pretty good at stopping and then turning in EQ so that I wouldn't interrupt but it's not something that I'd like to go through again. On the other hand, when I was in early VG beta, before I got hired, there was ZERO movement penalty during casting. Combine that with a +15%? movement speed buff in one of the stances and I could solo basically anything, assuming it wasn't in a 'small' room (could still do certain sized rooms+). It was changed because it was overpowered; being able to attack any NPC that you can outrun or maintain a distance from is overpowered, at least until that NPC has the ability to bridge that distance gap. And what of those abilities that can bridge the gap? Summon, root, snare or a type of lunge? Minus the bullshit summoning, giving classes/NPCs those other "outs" so that they can cover the gap between a caster and themselves is much more reasonable than summoning or removing the ability to cast at a reduced movement speed. While "lunge" or the abillity to cast at a reduced movement speed may not necessarily be realistic, they're a hell of a lot more fun than the alternatives. And it should always be about fun... | VG is a mostly very decent game (barring some recent issues with GU5 like the BOP/nodecon crap and return of the undead APW lag) that does suffer from one glaring problem: lack of end game content (defined as both lack of an Alternative Advancement system and lack of new raid and 6man dungeons). I continue to have issues with Silius & co. who seem to think things like fishing, multiple mount quests and insane grinds like Tehatamani qualify as endgame content (or in the case of ToT 'good' endgame content).

| It's not even as if Tehatmani is a grind for everyone. As in, it's not something that everyone has to do to "max out" their character. I never bothered to get faction for that place and I got all of my jewelry in one night since someone with faction was flipping temples. In other words, that entire area of "content" was trivialized. |

And as to what I like or don't like about VG. Well as the game changes the specific things I like or don't like change. But some things remain constant -- like that fact that I continue to play and the enjoy the game (with the odd month hiatus every six months or so). Take for example the lag issue. If you bothered to actually follow this thread instead of just kneejerk bash VG you'd know that the APW lag issue was fixed a loooong time ago but with GU5 they (and by they I mean SOE and the VG dev team) fucked up and the lag is back. By all accounts it is the same problem that they fixed (buff update issues). So yeah facepalm. It's crap like that makes me say (and probably Kcxiv too -- but I don't want to speak for him) that I'm happy to check out alternative MMOS and if one ever comes along that really peaks my interest I'd leave VG but that hasn't happend yet. So facepalm aside, I continue to play. And as long as I continue to play, I'm going to continue to defend.
