also, hopefully not a repost but: News: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Insider Trailer - GamersHell.com

mostly boring marketing crap trying to make it sound like CTF is innovative or something, but there's some nice siege footage at the end.

Is there an actual signup on fileplanet? I subscribed yesterday so I could get a key, but when I go to the page it just shows some dates saying "Confirmed" and "Distributed", but I never got a chance to enter any info or actually "sign up" for the beta. Do they just send them out to all subscribers or what?

I played AO as recently as October of last year, and my engineer pets still joust with mobs and hump doorframes due to pathfinding algorithms that sucked in 2001 and still do, you still rubberband when running in several areas of Scheol, Adonis and Penumbra, and the last tower battle I attended I literally had about 5 FPS performance with every setting knocked down to try and limit the lag. Come to think of it, you still freeze when entering busy places like Rome Blue Basic and some of the busier whompahs. And I helped some folks out trying to get weapons from the Inner Sanctum, and you still need an engineer to Beacon Warp teammates into the same instance, because the game still cannot resolve putting teamed players into an instance together, at least not reliably.

Like most AO players, I make jokes about that stuff and press on, but as a fan of the game, I try to make the best of things, not unlike a Vanguard player who can now try to laugh off the crap that is still busted, since they are trying to get their moneys worth.

So I wonder stuff about AoC from an AO player's perspective, knowing how FunCom does things.
I'm not saying the game didn't have its share of launch problems. Just that they weren't anything near VG's level of fuckedness. You could barely play AO during the first month for mostly technical fuckups, and some minor gameplay issues. You couldn't play Vanguard well beyond a month for technical fuckups, broken classes, broken quests, shit performance, etc. It was so fucked, they're STILL fixing shit. A month after AO launched, you could at least finish a friggin' quest. But seriously, 5fps in a tower battle? Your shit is junk man. I take part in 3-4 tower battles a week, and have yet to dip below 25 with 80-100+ toons, towers, and effects. I can zone in and out of RBB, ToTW, RGA, all day long and never freeze. EVER. I can pop into Trade grid and load everything near instantly.

You'd have to be literally blind to not see the significant difference between AO's launch and Vanguard's. Its like night and day.

fact of the matter is no game is ever gonna have totally lag free pvp when they let you bring as many people as you want to the fight.. EVE has prolly increased the number of people you can bring to a fight without crashing by 20x since launch and still to many people come and it lags to hell... WoW couldnt handle hillsbrad battles either..

So either you get hillsbrad/EVE style stuff and accept the inevitable lag or you go for the the limited number BG style stuff that so many pvpers claim feels so artificial (AV). AoC looks to be providing both which imo is the best we can expect.

The difference between VG and AO is that for the vast majority of people VG was at its core a shitty concept with shitty implementation that wasnt going to be fun even if it ran well with no bugs. AO (and AOC) are decent concepts and decent implementations so if and when they have bad bugs more people will overlook it because at the heart of the game isnt some retarded throwback to EQ concept. I know the reason i quit VG was because the game was built around grouping but failed to provide much fun content or even people to group with if you werent playing with friends.

Anybody have any idea when they are going to release the official server names and which ones will be PvP/PvE/RP-PvP?? They have been having the "Official Poll Phase 1" for the longest time now. And here we are less than a month to launch and what? less than 2 weeks out until registration and no list of servers so people/guilds/clans/whatever can decide which server they want to be on? I mean, I know you don't want to release that info too early.

Signed up for a subscription? Or signed up for the beta?

Edit: What does confirmed mean? Confirmed that that batch will open today? Or that everyone who registered for a key in that batch has been confirmed, and will be receiving a key?

TBD - We are monitoring load to determine how many key releases we can have in the day
Confirmed - A key release has been confirmed for that day
Coming Soon - Key release is within 2 hours
Distributed - That batch has been depleted

Thanks. Where is that, though? I tried looking around, but couldn't find it =\
