| The chain kills I posted were a 'for sure' thing, as you actually get a message on the screen when you do chain kills, such as: 2-Chain Kill! 3-Chain Kill! 4-Chain Kill! ...and so on. The bonus gets big really fast, though of course it gets tougher and tougher to successfully pull off higher chains. I personally like it, as it introduces another layer of strategy in pulling packs of mobs. If you play your cards right, you could walk out of a pack with 2 times+ normal exp. I was talking to a buddy of mine in WoW who is in the General Beta, and got to ask him a few questions. Here are some of the details (in no particular order): 1) The difficulty level sharply increases after leaving Tortage and getting to level 20+. The game also becomes alot more open. 2) Comprehensive guild bank system: "Tax" like system where the bank automatically accrues revenue equal to 10% of the total resources picked up by its owning players. E.g., player picks up 10g, bank gets 1g. Guild master can also increase the percentage, but it will start to tax income directly. E.g., GM sets rate to 30%, player picks up 10g, 8 will go to him, and 3 will go to the bank. This bank is located in a player PvE city, and getting the PvE city built up and running will be crucial to supplying the resources and maintainence for a battlekeep. 3) Very large zones. Immensely sized cities as well. He commented on spending four hours just walking around Tarantia and gawking at stuff. 4) In game video capture system similar to Fraps (eats hard drive space like mad though) 5) No grind intensive professions. No more "create 1000x of this" to get to the next tier of crafting. It's often done with a quest and maybe one item craft. 6) Brief tidbits of a couple of professions: Commander: Can build stables and upgrades to provide increasingly powerful mounts to guild members. Lord: Can place keeps. 7) Client in General Beta is stable. He noted it has problems on SLI'd machines at the moment though as it is improperly allocating memory to the vid cards and basically overloading them sometimes, causing a crash (he has an SLI machine). He says Funcom has acknowledged the problem and working on a fix. Patching is occuring about every 2 days at this point. 8) Places to hang out, such as taverns and such. I believe he said there were 5 or more of such places in Tarantia alone. Commented that there wasn't any Ironforge or Shattrath city-like clusterfucks. Such places will also be important to recruiting mercenaries to fight. 9) Mercenary system: Commented that there is a separate system dealing with mercenaries (mercenary levels and the whole nine yards). Allows people who are not affiliated with a huge guild to still partake in the big fights. Also allows smaller guilds to bolster their forces temporarily. Certain people in guilds will be allowed to post mercenary requests, and gold payments/rewards. That's all I can remember at the moment. I'll post more if I remember anything else of value or talk to him again. |

| Yeah, that's basically verbatim from the fanmade FAQs on the public forums. Pretty sure the commander and lord stuff was cut from the game.

+3 Internets | Well, guess that's one less class choice. I can't fathom how devs can make such massive, poor, generalized changes to a class. Inconceivable! *with lisp*

| So..Any word on open beta yet? And any place i can get a real in depth look at the 3 healer classes+Dark Templar? Narrowed it down to thsoe 4 classes, mainly leaning towards the three healers (Priest of Mithra; The more you heal the harder you nuke and Temptest of Set=the more you nuke the better you heal, right?) And of course, bear shaman is just "wtf hammer to yo head no bitch" right?

| Here are my PC Specs: 256 - NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Dual-Core Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 / 2.4 GHz 2 GBs of Ram Mother Board is SLI or SLI ready (not sure the right way to say it) Here is my question assuming Funcom gets the SLI issue resolved: Would it be wortrh it for me to buy and install a second NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT? Will I see a difference? Thanks in advance for the responses, I am not all that PC Savy. |

+2 Internets | I'd say add some ram. Once the SLi memory allocation issues have been resolved you could purchase a 2nd 8600 for pretty cheap or you could just upgrade your current card completely. I'd suggest trying to get a 512 or 768 personally. |

| I wouldn't rely on them resolving SLI anytime soon. You'd be better off with a single 8800GT/GTS 512MB.

+1 Internets | Yeah get more ram. I'd shoot for 4GB to run this game (and probably many future MMOs/other games on PC) simply because of the memory usage. Edit: I disabled SLI and the performance was fine with an 8800 GT, so as Twobit said, just get a single 8800 for now. Last edited by Kodylan : 04-21-2008 at 01:13 PM. |
