Huh? Aren't 10 free days post-launch included too?

Ballin. The class is slow for the first few levels but gets decent at 20 and really strong at 25 (in my opinion). I'm only level 26 atm but so far it's been a blast. If you decide to try one don't get discouraged quick, the heals get way better fast.

In PVP atm if someone jumps me and I get my heal off and my HoTs going there's no way I'm dying. I feel like a ret paladin/holy paladin hybrid.

What did you expect? I expected far more downtime then there was.

This is a game that is pre-release. 9 hours downtime over 3 days of otherwise smooth play is a god damned miracle. Ever play any other MMORPG first month of release, let alone -3 of release?

In fact, it probably sets a record of least downtime during that amount of time for any MMORPG during first 3 days of release ever.

The new kids on the block don't know what it was like in the Dark Days of old school MMo land so far AoC's pre-release deal has been good. I can count several days of being unable to play EQ,WoW,Daoc,SWG, and other shit due to botched releases, expansions, and patch day nightmares.

The timing of it is what sucks balls.

5pm-10pm on a monday night? That's fucking prime time. Thank god the SA-NO game is tonight because I wouldn't have been playing anyway.

Well arguably Bear shamans get their ultimate crap even later, but they're efficient starting 30. DT straight out suck before a rather high lvl, somewhere around 50-60 from what I understood from the various beta reports. Why exactly I checked, I bet it has to do with the AE fear feat being 41desecration, and needing Dark Burden in Depravity(17) too.

Without both, being one of the lowest dps class in the game, it's pretty hard to kill anything since they can just run away, or heal or whatever. Having both, you can pretty much lockdown someone for a decent amount of time, time you will spend in Frenzy stance popping your biggest attacks, and keeping the target in range, while lifetapping most of it back.

This, however, is purely PvP aspect. For PvE they're good enough for anything you throw at them. But it's hard leveling on a FFA server when you can't even win any 1vs1(well maybe the rogue fights I guess, but that's about it). If you're part of a stable group, or have a duo friend(especially a healer of some sort), it's no problem at all. You won't contribute much to PvP, but that's fine really considering healers are very strong. Then you hit the magic levels, and start being insanely useful.

You raise your soldier counter ability, Sadism, by having your group take dmg(which will happen in pvp), which increases your lifetaps and pulse AE damage. You can group HoT and distribute some of your lifetaps to the group, you can AE fear, and do all the usual soldier stuff. Played in an offensive way, like in frenzy stance with a book instead of a shield to increase magic damage, you're looking at a very interesting group pvp char.

It is not an easy class, but one thing is sure, you won't see a ton of DTs running around. Hell we don't see any soldiers at all. It's just tons of healers rogues and casters. And it does seem powerful at high enough level.

As a side note, leveling to 80 takes like, 4days /played if you actually spend most of it leveling. Same as wow on release, might be less but I'm not sure how much it slows down later on. So it's not that much of a torture, unless you're a casual and play 12hours a week, then yeah, it'll suck playing a DT on a pvp server.
Thanks for taking the time to share that info. I'm on a PVE server and don't plan on PVPing until later on anyways, so if the DT is weak PVP-wise, that doesn't really bother me at this point. All I'm concerned about is viability in the later levels. From what I've been reading the DT will be a very viable class in the higher levels, so finding groups (if necessary) won't be much of a challenge.

Any class recomendations for someone that will probably only solo for a month or 2 before quitting the game? I've always liked melee hybrid classes. I don't have a lot of time to play any more but want to check this game out.

Oh this would be on a PVE server.

Bear or HoX. Bear is melee-healer hybrid. HoX is melee-mage hybrid.

Doesn't seem like they have any damage or cc abilities? Do they basically just sit there and heal/melee?
