WoW beta has it's issues too. You people forget the meaning of the world 'beta', it means to test something that needs fixing.
And don't forget the WoW launch (yes, take those rose colored glasses off for a second), I recall an entire group of servers that had to taken down for days after launch, not hours, days!

Don't let Jayrebb rain on your parade, he's a hater.

So for from what my cousin's sister told me, there is very little hate on the AoC beta forums for the game, which is a good sign.

WoW's launch had some serious issues, because they had some horrible queues when they were trying to set up a lot more servers than they had planned.

WoW's beta was utterly incredible and WoW in beta was several times more stable than EQ live (this was GoD with the engine change, remember?)

I was on Mal'Ganis at launch which was one of the servers that were down for about 3 days. Even when they came back up, I had guildmates who had their characters stuck in instance servers for over a week.

No MMO launch is without its' problems. Hopefully the closed tech stress test they're doing on Sunday will help prevent some of the launch day horrors. Although I'm not sure if 3 hours will be sufficient.

The genius of having dozens of guilds 'declare' a server pre-launch.

WoW launch was only bad because they didn't understand the demand plus they released server names too early O.o I remember all the hardcore pvp guilds from Rallos Zek and DAOC were all planning on headed to Archimonde, that server ended up being down for like 2 weeks.

Of course Blizzard didn't really fix the server issues for some servers until Naxxramas was released, Illidan didn't get new hardware until Naxx launch and it was a release server.

Not only is the stupid patch 6 gigs but it uses both CPU cores while downloading the 6 gigs, making it hard to do anything else cpu intensive while it downloads.

Yeah then load up a game and set affinity to the other core. Wonder when/if I get into beta will I be having these problems haha. The preorder thing says pay 5 bucks get addition 10 days and can download the client 2 days before the 3 day head start....looks like I am REALLY going to need those 2 extra days.

Well hopefully they know that(WoW patcher is also a complete piece of shit but apparently they don't know that)and they re-release a full client download with at the most like 50mbs of patching.

Derail so spoiler tagged it.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Don't tell me the WoW patcher is anything but a complete and utter shit pile, because why else is the patch downloaded from EVERYWHERE else but from the patcher, and the fuckers that do get the patcher working make the servers lag to all shit and cause HUGE bandwitdth spikes that force me to restart mode/router to get internet back. On patch days I had to use a bandwidth limiter just to play.

The difference is that with the WoW patcher you can turn the torrent crap completely off and get the patch from alternate sources at fast speeds if you want. And they aren't gigabyte sized patches.

And when AoC goes live, you may be able to do the same thing as well as having much smaller patches.

You couldn't do that early on if you remember. And the fact blizzard has insisted on releasing their own BT shit instead of just providing a torrent file for people with not too retarded setups(in comparison the "unofficial" torrents were always like 20times faster for me when they released those, before they made deals with every major gamesites to have shit on patch day). I mean, God forbids some people might actually want to cap their upload lower than their full upload rate so they're not lagged to shit while downloading when using ADSL.

Again, blizzard fucking failed a lot of stuff, but there was also nothing big at that moment on the market, there was a window of opportunity that was rather huge, especially with the coming/democratization of ADSL and other high speed networking stuff in most countries at that time. Nowadays you release something like they released wow, it goes right there with all the other crappy launches, Hellgate london/tabula rasa.
