Technical beta is generally only for specified chunks of time when they need to test something specific and want a lot of people hammering away at it.

General beta allows you to play anytime.

The last ''tech test' was nothing but an hour of making new forum/billing accounts on the website.

Their letting us in to stress test the servers I believe.. gives us a chance to decide to blow $50 or not too.

My favorite part to getting accepted into this:

Requires 35GB free space to install.

All NPCs have been replaced with Ninjas in order to increase consumer appeal.

If you actually read the notes, there's really nothing that can take 6gb. I think the issue with their patching system is when they change something, you have to redownload the whole thing again(so you're downloading a lot of useless code you already have). If they don't somehow fix it before release, which I doubt it can happen, I dread the first few days when they'll have to hotfix some shit and you'll end up with all the user base downloading a fucking 2gb patch to fix 3fucking doors in tortage.

I lol'd hard. Theres no way they are fixing that bug before launch, its been in the game for....12 months. Maybe we will be able to purchase an item with real life money at the Funcom store that will let us see the bugged NPCs. Sounds about right.

Success: when a game is marketed for PvP and begins testing and balance 30 days before launch.

Yeah, heh. They should really delay now that Warhammer has been pushed back. It can only help them. I've pretty much stopped logging into beta also.

Except they may now be at that point where the money men are unwilling to give them more cash to push it back. Six weeks to go.

They have put their entire hand into the May launch date.

If they push back again, there will be a very vocal "fuck aoc" crowd. This would effectively destroy any viral marketing that MMOs thrive on. See Vanguard for how public opinion correlates to subscription numbers. I mean shit, people in WoW general chats were bashing Vanguard. Thats how widespread it was.

They cannot afford to spurn their current loyal fanbase again. Better to rack up the box purchases than shoot for long-term retention that may never happen anyway. Get the cameras out for this catch 22 trainwreck.

Nothing kills a game more than a bad launch, period.

A delayed launch will do much less damage to them than a very poor one.
