I've been playing on the FFA PVP Open Beta servers and OMFG is it fun as hell. It's utter chaos with groups running all over the place pwning each other. I took a boat to some lvl 20 quest hub near Khemi and it's a bloodbath, corpses/tombstones everywhere. Found 5 random people and formed a PUG and we started rolling the guild groups raping solo players.

I added a gig of ram and upgraded to a sata hard drive (was using an old ATA 133.) Between that and the last patch performance is great. My load times that were 3+ minutes long are now 15 seconds. No stuttering at all. 20+ fps with 50 players onscreen beating the everliving piss out of each other.

Queue times for the minigames are about 5 seconds, especially when we started queuing as a group.

I'm seriously glad I pre-ordered.

on a sidenote, respawn point camping is absolutely out of control atm. if the FFA pvp servers are like this, I definitely will not be playing on one. There are guilds making it impossible to get into (or out of) common areas like cities. Since there's a full-blown loading screen, you literally have no chance and, even on a good comp, will be dead before you load in.

If it were more of an open world, it would be no issue at all. but as it stands, you're so bottlenecked in certain areas ingame that it's a goddamn nightmare.

Uhm, I haven't played on a pvp server since the last wipe, but I'm pretty sure there's a temporary invuln buff when you spawn at a GY, which lasts 10 secs after you leave it iirc, more than enough time to cast PoA or log out or whatever. Wherever there's an opportunity to grief, you can expect griefers though. I doubt me and mine will play on a FFA server come release, as I really don't have the time for much more than casual play for the foreseeable future and would prefer to be in control of what I get out of a session myself.

Oh nevermind it says right in the patch "All chars created before downtime." Fucking great. I deleted 3 or 4 to make room, too. I swear to god, this game is one step forwards, two steps back. I get all excited about one thing and then WHAM, something else crops up just to harsh my mellow

Well that sucks. The main issues I have with playing on an FFA server could be put to rest by implementing GY immunity, post-zoning immunity (lasts until you move your char or activate an ability) and anti-pvp guards in quest hubs. Oh, and immunity while talking to npcs/watching cut scenes. I'm a big fan of world pvp, I just hate being ganked when I can't even move or see that I'm being attacked.

the guards are just pretty broken in most low level zones, the guards in noble district rape people if you try to pk near them. The GY system is ok, the immunity really should last until you move or cast an offensive spell/action though imo... its so damn easy in this game to run away atm, far easier than it was in WoW.

Yeah there used to be immunity overkill, like 60 seconds worth of it. Now there's none or it goes away during the loading screen... need a compromise.

Working guards in quest hubs would be great as well.

Honestly this is probably the biggest issue they've got to correct in time for release, I don't even play my new characters on the closed beta pvp server because I know it's just a giant fucking mess with bored level 80's camping spawns. Obviously, it wouldn't be hard to fix this, but it's fucking imperative that it's in before release.

I was planning on going FFA too but after seeing it in action I may wuss out and just go PvE. There will be basically zero difference at the level cap because PvP zones, sieges, minigames will be the same. On PvE you will be able to level up without as much frustration/camping.

On the open beta atm are spells after lvl 20 open? I got to lvl 23 no new spells, so I figured maybe its from a trainer or something, and i can find PoM scroll merchants, but none of them work and the only NPC i can find with "trainer" is the feat reset lady.

I'll probably end up on a PVE server. The "pvp" i saw today is not what i want. At least 5 people camping the rez spot. Multiple ppl sitting stealthed at quest NPCs that wait until you get in dialogue with the NPC and attack, and there's nothing you can do.

I could hold my own on PoM, enjoying the after 20. The self heal helps alot, instead of relying on the shitty HoTs. Some of the feats are still worthless, descriptions like "increases dmg by 0.0%". And if you dont spec into the maga regen talent shit is hard as hell to solo. 2 mobs is iffy depending on thier lvl and you using a mana regen pot. But pump 5 pts into that mana regen feat and i can take on 4 with no problem that are 2-3 lvls above me.

Only other issue I have is the invisible lakes. Just running along, then all of a sudden your swimming through the air. Or your in a river swimming, and you stop swimming, but just run normally, but you cant get out because you cant run up the edge of the river bank to get out.

After 20 you get new spells and upgrades very very sparesly. I think it was every 5 levels. Mostly it's just upgrades of old shit, new spells are much fewer and farther in between.
