Your "marked and huge" difference was from the fact that you went to a superior processor design. Unfortunately, one of the cores was sitting idle when you were playing EverQuest 2.

Yep any difference he saw was related to improved CPU architecture, not the utilization of multiple cores.

But LOL I TALKED WITH A DEV ONCE I KNOW THESE THINGS.
No offence man but carrying on and continuing to insist that EQ2 takes advantage of multiple CPU cores is just making yourself look bad.

The dual core argument is retarded, any win32 app can explicity take advantage of dual core (by specifying flags when creating threads/processes, compile optimizations, and a million other things) but Windows itself will use the extra cores and processors as processes create threads, for other processes, and windows internal stuff. So even if EQ2 does not explicity support multi-cores just the fact that its Win32 will help it, even if it never spawns a single extra thread (unlikely) Windows will run internal threads off the second core. And FWIW Vista is even better at using multi cores than XP, but just has more "weight" (functionality, security, etc) to it so thats why it usually ends up a draw (or XP sometimes ahead) when XP and Vista are benchmarked on similar machines.

I am going to end up in the final game (already created my account and entered pre-order key and paid $5 for early access), tbh I doubt i'll play more than 2-3 hours a week so PVE server is gonna be for me, I'd love to be on a FFA PVP server but being too far behind the leveling curve, during summertime, with a ton of known exploits won't be fun. I am not that impressed with the game, and think its gonna go the way of TR/Hellgate in sub numbers, but I am a sucker for Conan and it'll be fun to just play in his world for a while, and maybe Funcom will get their shit together in a few months.

Still, for the past few days every time I've had a few free hours I have booted up GTA4 over AoC, and I'm in the general beta with a level 30+ character. Probably just burned out on MMOs, I'd rather run around with a 6 star wanted level or play multiplayer GTA4 than grind another few hours on bear asses. I expect I'll tool around a few hours a month on AoC until WOTLK comes out, when I'll resub to Blizzards crack cocaine.

Offence to you, then, sir, because I never said it "took advantage" I only said it played better. Which it does. I can write pages and pages of IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE!!!!!111

Lets look at what you wrote again:

Lets look at a thread started by Rothgar an EQ2 developer employed by SOE.

Here is the direct link to the official EQ2 forums so you can read what the people who made the game say:
What bugs you the most... Results!

Twenty-four pages later I've consolidated and categorized the responses. Below are the top issues from each of the categories with the number of times they were QFE'd in parenthesis.

Engineering / Programming

Multi-core support (59)

Under-utilization of the graphics card / GPU (45)

Allow shared bank usage across alignments on PvE servers. Allow sharing of coin. (9)
Vista compatibility issues / DirectX10 support (
General NPC pathing issues (
Having to cancel a mount to climb a wall, and recast it when done. (7)
Usable furniture such as chairs you can sit in and beds you can lay in. (7)
Increase the stack size of more items and allow more types of items to stack. (6)
Spell and Combat Art icons "grey out" while casting, making it difficult to see availability. (6)
Slow backup speed on mounts (6)
More hotbars (5)
Pets still have issues keeping up with their owners (5)
Allow purchasing of broker items from within your house. (5)
Dedicated torch slot (5)
Sharing UI settings files across characters attempts to load invalid channels each time (4)
Players should be forced to dismount or hide mount in specific areas such as banks and brokers (4)
Display a list of Druid rings and whether or not you've gained access to them. (4)
Allow more control of the display of particle effects such as disabling all but self and NPC. (4)
Raid window doesn't always allow moving people group members between groups (4)
Effects window is limited to displaying 30 buffs (4)
Better control over managing chat channels and the ability to assign colors to more than 10 channels (4)
Allow sorting of collection quests by name, level and completion percentage (4)
Aqua vision is broken (4)
Mounts should jump when stationary and pressing the space bar instead of playing animation. (4)
Rothgar posted this information about 1 month ago. What was the number 1 issue? Yep the problem of EQ2 not supporting mutliple cores for improved performance.

So you are here standing alone, against all the EQ2 developers and the entire EQ2 community with your claim that using a dual core CPU improves EQ2 performance.

I am having a hard time deciding if you are a tool, just an idiot, or about 12yrs old. Maybe all 3??

Sometimes its ok to admit when you are wrong buddy.

Oh, and, you got owned.

Getting antsy to have the NDA lifted. Im having a hard time deciding which class I want to play in release. 13 levels of beta just isnt enough as most classes have only gotten a handful of unique abilities by then. Anyone care to open up and share how many unique abilities each class eventually gets? Or any recent high level experience with any of the classes? Need more info!

@krinkled

In your sig you have AoC as an active sub. That's not possible yet.

A good amount. What you need to do is log on each class and check out each feat tree, best way to get a feel.

for people in closed beta...if you don't mind

if they iron out the memory leak stuff and most bugs, is the game of a quality that will get funcom 500k-1mil subs within a year or two after release?

Yes, however I think performance will be their make or break issue. The game itself is very cool. I think it takes the genre forward.

Truth. Also, don't forget you can (unless this was fixed for open beta...) hit "N" to open the feat tree before you hit level 10.

Doesn't work anymore. But 10-13 isn't under NDA so you can find calculators and descriptions on the web.

No. If they optimize it, make it smoothy playable down to the minimum specs get sieges and raids and decent PvP and balance and spellweaving and DX10 running well and some more stuff in the next 2 weeks then I could totally see it getting a few hundred thousand.
