Semantics be damned, they were both incredible literary artists.

Still time for that level of testing though.

| I'd say nowhere close. But open beta should provide a pretty decent indication of what they'll need to online for launch day.

| Based upon reading the beta (or Tech Beta -I forget) forums 2-4 weeks ago, I'd hazard a guess that not more than 100 people actually got patched up and into the game during the 5-hour "Tech Beta" things. I do believe the beta forums are now discontinued, which says all sorts of bad things about FunCom and their intent to "communicate" with their playerbase. The cynical side of me likes to think that FunCom deliberately released huge patches on the day of the "Test" and then pulled the plug on their patch servers just to severely limit the playing population (or at least assure that only those on a T3 line could DL the patch before the "Test" was over). |

In the late 20's the Hobbit was a story Tolkien told his kids at bed time. He didn't write anything down on paper until the 30's. Apart from which its a kiddies fairy story and its shit. I doubt it would be known of if it wasn't for the LotR. He published nothing of note until the mid 50's. Hence he is a scummy 50'ser.

| I remember reading somewhere that Tolkein and Howard shared a lot of stuff and there was even speculation that LotRO and Conan occured in the same 'universe' just at much different times. I looked around but couldn't find where I saw that though. ![]()

| I'd have to say that Howard's version of fantasy was far more "surreal and horrific" than Tolkien's. There wasn't much about Howard's style of fantasy that could be considered "high". Which I think is where the line gets blurred. Both outstanding in thier individual styles.

If not for the Hobbit, he wouldn't have started writing LotR at the request of his publisher in 1937. Yes it took him over 12 years to get it completed and another 5 years after that to get it published, but it doesn't change the fact that Tolkien was around writing during and of course much longer than your suicidal hero's time span.
