Yeah. Darkfall in 08 is a pretty funny statement. I remember looking forward to that game when I was still playing UO.

Darkfall does not have an official release date. Wikipedia feels that it will be in 08 is the only reason I included Darkfall. Amazon is pretty reliable on only posting what has been announced in some form or fashion. They are also quick to change dates if a game is postponed.

I just tried to reference as much detail as possible. Honestly, I have been trying to get a feel in the community about the upcoming MMO's. FoH mainly consists of the generation of players that I came from meaning we were all about the same age when EQ came out. Thus reflecting a lot of the same tastes and enjoyment in games. However, there just isn't much being discussed in the MMO world. Maybe WoW is really just untouchable at the moment or there isn't going to be anything better coming out compared to what's available.

I'm personally looking foward to AoC and WAR, mostly out of curiousity. However, I do not hold any high hopes for any games in 08 but i'm hoping you guys know something that I don't.

I'm looking forward to WOW when AoC and WAR come out. I'm sure they'll have some secret sauce to crush the competition.

When you start a thread in the MMO section it will always become about the same thing. Over and over and over, seriously we should just make one giant thread called "WoW and its competition"

The eternal problem is that Korean MMOs' always have freaky awesome gameplay elements but they crush it with insane grinds and horrible controls.

Want to dethrone WoW? Here's how.

Option 1) Wait until the game is unplayable due to a large amount of bugs or poor design decisions. However, due to their catering to the LCD, this will never happen. Glacial release rates don't matter dick to the 95% of the population that is still working on beating Scarlet Monastary.

Option B) Develop Virtual Reality and let me fulfill my fantasy of going back in time and beating the Olsen Twins to death with the erection that Jodi Sweeten gave me, with Roll Tide by Hanz Zimmer playing through the entire scenario.

Option Triangle) Be World of Starcraft.

So let's put that argument to rest.

Moving on...

Warhammer should be free to play and generate revenue entirely by letting me create miniatures from the characters I play.

Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms MMO that uses books as content updates. Meaning that you purchased the game, and they released playable versions of the books as play through content, with gear and skills earned transferring to the main play.
I'll use the most popular as an example. Take Drizzt and the Dark elf Chronicles, then the crystal shard, and yadda yadda. The game would be in the forgotten realms world, but then as content you could play through the, say Dark Elf Trilogy as content. Then after those three, they could release the Crystal Sard Triliogy as content as well. And of course there are tons of characters and places and times in the Forgotten Realm universe that could be used.

Then as content updates or expansions, they could release other " Books" and "Trilogies" ( since everything in fantasy seems to come in three's). I think that it would be awesome for lore, story, items, just about everything.

You mean like LotRO is doing? Releasing parts of the original plot as progressive updates?

These would be better as singleplayer games or multiplayer games done in the same way as BG1/2.

I see now. You're one of those people that looks for reasons to be offended. It must be frustrating to go through life like that.

It's not that we want it to be that way. Most of us definitely wish something new and interesting would come out that actually stood a chance of contending with WoW. Unfortunately, none of the games on this list are that.

2008 will be another year of WoW, hopefully the change of scenery is at least somewhat refreshing.

As I've said before, Song of Ice and Fire: Total War is the only way to go if you are going to make that series into a video game. If we are looking at fantasy novels, the highest on the list have to be Forgotten Realms (the Sword Coast), Dragonlance (Fifth Age), and Wheel of Time. People bitch about Jordan but the world he built up and the One Power would transfer very well.

Dragonlance Fifth Age would be the fist of hot ghey. The most interesting time to play (and to read about) was always the times when the Gods are there. Thus, before the Fifth Age, or after the War of Souls.

While waiting for a Game of Thrones video game, try the board game. It has large scale PVP.

I can't see WoW failing. I just can't.

Look at Everquest. While it started as this incredible game it just got so bad so slowly that we just woke up on day and realized we had been getting ass fucked for 3 years.

And I honestly think Blizzard has a bigger dedication to their customers than SOE did. Blizzard wants to fix problems, they listen to their customers for the most part, etc. They want a happy customer base.

When you have a game this successful and dominating, combined with its industry recognition, limitless resources, and developers that listen...it's almost impossible to sink that ship.
