People like Runnen remind me of the people i used torture with an evil clown grin on my face in guildchat while being totally right and untouchable. For the guild! >< God i miss pulling strings.

Just from the last couple of paragraphs I can tell you were the issue in the guild. This is coming from someone who has been the leader and officer of a bunch of MMO guilds. If you are just a member do what the leadership says, if you don't agree with it, instead of going apeshit in guild chat send a tell to an officer or the leader. If things still don't go the way you want leave the guild as it is honestly wrong for you.

So much guild drama would be solved if people would just talk about issues etc in tells instead of going all WTFBBQ in guild chat or vent.

They're continuing to improve the interface, their methods, and their content. Eventually a more appealling game will release with similar principles and the MMO industry will collectively step into the next generation.

The sandbox is the only future that can exist simply because developer created content can never keep up with player demand. The role of the developer should be to stimulate the sandbox in a setting players are attracted to experiencing all by itself. MMOs won't die. They're just going to transform. Sports games will almost certainly be the next genre to adopt the MMO model, now that consoles are all internet-friendly. They're easy to make, have mass appeal, and you can slowly update them with features that take zero imagination to produce.

I'd really love an EVE where I played the game, instead of playing a spreadsheet, a radar, and a target list (UI Elements being the focus as opposed to the visual elements). Just like I hated staring at a Grid of Names or a Wall as a healer in the past, I just couldn't get into EVE's system since it seemed to functionally disconnect you from the setting.

The only type of MMO that could topple WoW's dominance is one based on sex. Make a high budget game with very realistic graphics based on porn, and you'll have an instant winner. Basement dwellers the world over would never log out.
