| [EQ1] - Old time players trying it out - guides Hi Everyone, I started reading Fohguild.org many many moons ago when I still played Everquest. I started late 1999 and played up through 2004 and I don't think I ever posted. I have been a dedicated and avid reader of these forums for quite some time, so I just wanted to go ahead and say hello. Recently there has been some good discussion about Everquest. This has prompted to me, in my recent leaving of World of Warcraft (for many different reasons that are my own, and not pertinent to this discussion), to look into Everquest 1 again to spend time in. Yesterday I reactivated my 59 Iksar Warrior on Fennin Ro, Ssithzar. Currently I only have up through OOW for my enabled expansions. After logging in and taking nearly an hour to figure out how to look at items, eat and drink food, and get the general feel of the game again I realized that I was utterly and absolutely lost. I ended up wandering into the Plane of Valor and subsequentially not being able to find my way out. This leads me to a two part question that hopefully will not only help myself, but provide some help to others as well. The first of these questions: Are there any websites or guild sites that are dedicated to the reintroduction of Everquest 1 players. If there are no sites, are there any previously written guides that give the lay of the land 7 expansions and 4 years later. After doing a little bit of unsuccessful searching on my own I have come to the conclusion that asking the long time EQ veterans still browsing these forums if they know of anything. The second part of this question is more asking for a piece of advice from all of you. The reason I wished to reactivate my warrior was due to having the Epic 1.0 completed. I don't know the difficulty of re-obtaining these weapons these days, but the nostalgia and effort put into them at the time was just something that gave me a warm feeling. I am currently located on the Fennin Ro server (noticed that some long standing guilds like Caelum Infinitum and The Mystical Order were still around, very crazy). I am currently using 21 free days that apparently accumulated on the account while I was gone and the decision I am trying to make, is would it be more benefitial to purchase the newest expansion and all previous ones on my account with the Station all access pass (I still play EQ2 occasionally and jump on SWG now and again) and start over new on Firionia Vie, or continue to work with my character on this account on Fennin Ro. Are things like my Epic 1.0 and fairly established character worth holding onto these days, or are those things I am so nostalgic about easily replacable these days. If starting over with a new character on FV will help reintroduce me to the game more effectively, it may be the stronger choice. You guys probably would have gotten a healthy laugh at me standing in the Bazaar last night thinking to myself, oh god, I don't even know the binds anymore! I apologize for this being so long winded, perhaps the discussion that sparks from it can prove to be helpful for others looking to start it up again as well. Thanks. -Tim |

I'd say yes on the character unless you want to try the level grind for some reason. Epic1.0 was pretty out of date when I quit during Omens. I would imagine it must be pretty easy to do better at this point.

1) download the maps from www.eqmaps.com. so you wont be lost anymore 2) epic 1.0 is absolutely not a problem. before i stoped to play i was a lv75 warrior and i could solo it easely. of course my equip was above avarage cause i was in a raiding guild, but really, epic 1.0 i not a problem at all. gotta run now. bye ![]()

+166 Internets | Join a 'newbie guild' if you can find one, don't be picky. Anything will do even if you don't intend to stay long. Usually you can get quick answers to most questions and you don't have to wade through the asinine general chat channels /ooc and whatnot. My experience was with FFxi, but I imagine it's largely similar. |

| Real Life Apologist | Couple things... he wasn't talking about difficulty in acquiring 1.0, he was talking about whether it would be useful to keep. The answer is yes, it would be useful for a level 59 to hold onto it, though you'll get better items in quick order. I second what was said about newbie guilds. If you can, somehow, try to find someone who played when you did and would remember you. Chances are decent there's still a couple people left. Ask them questions. Use /lfg and try to get groups. Use allakhazam for general information about quests and mob levels in zones, as well as item lists if you really need it. Mainly what you're going to get is from people, not websites. |

+5 Internets | I've recently been playing EQ1 as well. One of the easiest upgrades you can get was some of the new jewelry. Have a look at Gnomish Jewelcrafting Gizmonotron Higher level metals increase the stats of the gems but note that the metals have a required level. You can later remove the gems and move them into a better metal. Always insert the type 11 gem first, btw. You can get a 15-20AC,200+hp/mana necklace, face, 2 earrings, 2 rings and 2 wrist items this way, for less than 1k plat per item (which is nothing these days - I've sold stacks of bonechips for over 100plat and made nearly 10k from an afternoon in HoH selling tradeskill drops in the bazaar) Also you can get the cultural armor relatively cheaply ("intricate trooper ..." in your case). Allakhazam.com: Everquest: Quest: Iksar Cultural Armor (DoN) Add a deity-specific augment to it (Allakhazam.com: Everquest: Search: symbol of growth ), at your level you'll probably want the "sacred" version for your deity and you have a pretty decent item. My paladin (at 65) was wearing ornate, and with a set of cultural armor and jewelry went from about 1100ac to over 1500ac which makes a HUGE difference. Gained about 2k base hitpoints as well. At this point I have little trouble tanking in HoH while being my own healer if I have to, and that's with less than 30 AAs, none of which are tanking AAs. As far as guides, the newbie zone on the official forum has some good info. I also found the shamans crucible very useful The Spirit Realm :: Index

| I'd rather keep my happy memories of the game than replace them with shitty ones. I remember how much fun I had and I would hate to fire it up and be disappointed. |

1. Everquest 2. People that used to play it 3. These people going back I then explained that I used to play everquest in the old school days and why I chose to never go back. It's relevant because I presented the opinion of someone that did NOT go back, and their reasons for doing so. I would be willing to explain again using a dry erase board and sock puppets, just let me know.
