Shit. I know shit's bad right now, with all that starving bullshit, and the dust storms, and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings. But I got a solution. Ads for free Shadowbane.

The controls do (did) suck, but I remeber after a couple days I got used to them and it wasn''t a problem... just counter-intuitive at first.

I had a char (mage assassin I think) that had a spel that would prevent other players from being able to type any messages (silence?) What a fun spell that was. I had a guildy who I used to silence everytime he'd start chatting.. made for some fun times.

Too bad vent takes away from that, but still a very cool spell design indeed. Shadowbane definitely had quite a few innovative things. Hopefully something like Darkfall or SBG's new game can deliver where SB didn't.

The controls are so bad in this game I just can't play it. I tried I really did but when I click just past an object and the fucker gets stuck on it I get annoyed. That and flying isn't really flying you can't fly off a tower or anything like that you can fly down the steps....yay?

not sure if they changed flying but you could fly off walls etc when i played near release.. it was pretty cheesy compared to flying in wow but thats in line with how the rest of the game is i guess.

Flying was pretty critical in town sieges, since it allowed you to rape wall defenders to make it easier, in turn, for your ground based siege.

Flying was also used by mages to protect against melee. Didn't help against me though since I was running a huntress and would drop them like nothing.

I played pretty steady for a while until the hassel of running my own city got to me and I quit. Just was too much work and wasn't worth it to me to pay to work.

Is the Dread server still around? I still have some great memories from back in the day.

I was a co-leader of Iniquity known as Ishap. I think I remember some people from TBW and some other guilds used to post here.

Anyway, the game was one big exploitation piece for me back then. I literally could be hit by only 1-3 characters on the entire server at my prime, then I could turn around and nuke people for at least 500 damage.

I still remember the fall of our city vividly, as well as my subsequent rampage during which I basically took over a city called Moonglow for a few hours because it offended me (that someone would steal a name so blatantly from Ultima).

Dread is gone, only like 3-4 servers left and only original one is Mourning.

That's what was great about SB. People didn't need shit like points, badges, epic honor gear etc, as a reward for PvP'ing. No one had to steer them with factions, or quests.

that's been my greatest grudge for awhile now. i started playing mmo's in the first place for the sole feature that is open world pvp. in every game i've played, it's been the random encounters that i look back most fondly. it starts at minute one, when you plan out the path of your character with killing people in mind, and ends with your knowledge of the opposing class and the strategy employed to come out on top. i never found pvp based rewards to be any motivation for my continued play. it's the fighting itself that kept me excited. then you start getting into 2v1 and dropping larger groups and oh shit, too fucking fun

so yah, fps's exclusively for a year and then some now. maybe i got off track here, but for serious guys, pvp for the sake of pvp. wtf happened to that? i'm biding my time in this cave til that style emerges again it looks like, if it ever does.

Don't fag up this thread claiming cause/effect with SB's PvP system and SB subscription declines.
