This right here ends the GH vs. learning to play Guitar argument...because there are some people (like me) who do both and get different kinds of enjoyment out of each.

I love playing around with an acoustic guitar, but playing Even Flow as Slash in front of a packed crowd is a different kind of fun altogether.

Maybe I missed the point and this is what you mean, but I will take the BB gun in the backyard over CoD everyday of my life.

- stage, set, lights, costumes, exotic instruments
- amps/pa/sound system
- someone to count every note you hit and rate you on a 1-5 scale, then upload those stats to a central server
- a crowd of thousands of people who cheer/jeer depending on your performance
- someone to pay you for every gig and for a world tour
- (in the case of Rock Band) tour bus, airplane, body guards, induction into hall of fame
This is far beyond the level of specificity I went into for my other examples. I'm not the one bringing hyperbole into this. Shooting at other people IRL usually involves deadly risk. Playing professional football requires a large amount of physical talent and a life that has leaned that way since at least high school, if not grade school. The people saying "why don't you use that time to learn how to play an actual guitar" are not suggesting you become an actual rock star, that is simply the counter-argument being brought on the subject.

Your argument makes sense, sure. Your stage, however, makes absolutely no sense at all. I don't think anyone in this thread really gives a rats ass about whether someone should learn to play the guitar or play Guitar Hero instead. If they want to be fat and lazy with chicken grease-soaked fingers that slam on buttons on a plastic guitar instead of the real thing, that's their choice.

I know I personally don't -- that's the last thing I even want to be bothered with while checking out the CES 2008 Highlights.

Speaking of which, I checked out G4's coverage last night too -- there was some pretty cool shit this year. Seems like there are quite a few technological advances coming in the next year or two that will pave the way for the future.

G4's show coverage is decent. Considering no one else does it on TV, they're great. AotS is the only thing I watch though. Both of its hosts are really solid.

Was USB 3.0 there? I'm curious if they made all iterations of the port something other than a rectangle for the purposes of figuring out which way it fits based on feel.

I still hate that G4 ate TechTV and killed things like Call For Help.

I'm not gonna call you an idiot, but your argument does break down. Someone can get a gun and shoot at things, someone can join a local flag football for about as much effort as learning to play the guitar. Playing the guitar is not the sum of the GH/RB experiance.

I agree, don't care about what people do one way or the other. I just hate stupid arguments from the pro-GH side which make even less sense than what the pro-real-guitar side has to say.

It's a stupid argument; GH is a game that's very easy to pick up, master, then stop. You could argue similar things about any sports game, fighting game, racing game, whatever. They're games with fast achievement, require very little previous skill, and are very accessible.

Yes. See. I refuse to believe you're so fucking stupid that you somehow missed how this is a constant issue that no one on the GH side actually gives a rats ass about. I don't want to learn to play a real guitar and I'm willing to bet neither does anyone else that plays these games. Or if they do, it's completely unrelated to playing the games.

So what I do believe, is you're just being an asshole for the hell of it. And so yes, I'm calling you out on it. So just shut up and fuck off.
