Exteel MMO/FPS

Exteel

This game left beta a couple weeks ago. I gave it a try and it doesn't seem that bad. The game is more of a FPS with a MMO element to it. You join a skirmish that lasts around 10 min in battles of deathmatch/team objective maps like territory control. Its free to play with the option of buying NC coin. From what I could tell everything you could buy was with regular coin that you earn from matches though, besides some items that could be bought with either coin or NC Coin.

There are a range of weapons/armor and skills that you can buy for your mech. There is a level system that allows you to level up from the matches also. The graphics were pretty good once you change the resolution to whatever you like. The controls seemed well done. I felt like I had good control over where I moved my character (WASD style) You do need to aim but your crosshairs light up when you are on target to shoot. It felt like a mix between auto aiming and non auto aiming.

I'm not really a FPS fan but I think people that like FPSs and MMOs should give it a try.

sounds more like an FPS with RPG elements.

for it to truly be an MMOFPS it has to be on the scale of WWII Online, or Planetside.

It's not even FPS to my remembering, it's a third person shooter death match with strong RPG elements. Although, it's fucking Gundam style avatars, so that's a big ole WIN if I ever saw one. Played the beta of this ages ago, if my connection had been better, it would have been pretty fun.

It's an NCSoft game, which means 5 days of fun until you uninstall it.

P.S. That wasn't a slight on NCSoft's games. They really are fun, but I've yet to find one that can hold my attention.

I thought about downloading it, but the thought of paying for skills kind of leaves me cold. And I wasn't sure if you can earn those skills through regular play, or if they would reserve the juiciest ones for pay only.

Same. NCSoft games start off great and get worse as you level. It seems like the endgame sucks in all of their games except for maybe L2. And they all seem to have a Korean-style grind (it is after all, a Korean company).

So does NCsoft just have a fucking assembly line for MMO's going on or what? It seems like they always have a new MMO out every couple months at least, and as others have mentioned, they don't seem to capture players attention for much longer than that either.

It's really not an mmo, it's more of a shitty Mech arena/third person game, with like 5 maps, that happens to have RPG elements, and multiplayer.

NCSoft is a publisher. They publish mostly other people's MMOs, including ones they have translated from Asia.

Not entirely accurate. NCsoft is both a publisher and developer. ArenaNet, Destination Games (Garriott's team) and the team that made this game are all development teams owned by NCsoft.

Yeah, in other words NCSoft is smart.

Because these days everyone is happy with their current MMO. No game-jumping ever happens because folks get bored a few months after a new expansion.
