I'm going with a new playable race for SC2. In regards to the splash screen. It looks like the Xel'Naga to me.

However, I still predict WotLK info, SC2 infor, Diablo 3, and a new IP suprise in the not-so-near future.

Anything is possible.. but why would Blizzard do a huge buildup to a beta announcement? It just seems very sensationalistic for something we already know is coming anyhow.

The perfect storm. Honestly, in a perfect world, I would surmise the following at WWI:

1.) WoW:WotLK beta announcement (could care less, I am done with WoW)
2.) Starcraft 2 new race, beta, and/or release date (backflip time)
3.) Announcement of Diablo 3 officially being worked on (more backflips)
4.) New IP or somehow someway Blizzard has landed the Star Wars IP and is developing their "next gen" MMO around Star Wars (wishful thinking, never will happen, but would be the equivalent of a nuclear attack reaction)

I think Blizzard needs this to help their reputation alone. I know everyone will praise the fact that they have built a game with 10 million + subs and a history of great games. However, they have not released any content outside of TBC in some time. It would at least answer questions to what Blizzard does with all of their resources. Sure you can say, "what about SC2?" Even that idea comes with jokes about it's release date. Just as the list mentioned above will receive some heckling about release dates as well.

IF Blizzard hit a grandslam with the four point release as discussed, their stock in the gaming industry would go way way up in terms of respect. We respect them now but they are not as proactive as most gaming companies (though their quality deserves credit)

Each of the runes is from a different Blizzard game, isn't it?

Warcraft
Starcraft
Diablo
Lost Vikings
And ???

Also, ice is a standard Blizzard thing, so may not be game-specific.

Dunno what to think about the evil, furry, purple penguin though.

Huge buildup? It was just a fucking splash screen. It's the people who are making it out to be more than it is.

In fact, I hope it's not Diablo 3 just because that Diablo site is so fucking giddy that it is.

When's the last time you saw a company spend the week leading up to one of their two major events during the year updating a teaser image, just to announce the beta of an expansion?

Yeah, I've never seen it either.

Does anyone else not find the reference to every game weird? It doesn't fit. Diablo 3, starcraft 2, lost vikings, wotlk/wow all of that doesn't make sense to be related to all of the other games blizzard has made.

For example why mention wotlk beta and have diablo runes, lost viking refrences, or protoss runes associated with it? When they announced SC2 they didn't associate every game ip they have made before with it.

It just doesn't fit. There is no reason to associate Diablo 3 with every other game, Starcraft 2 with every other game, WOTLK beta with every other game.

Is it possible that they are making a new IP which is the historical timeline that brings all of their IP's together? A game which connects diablo to starcraft and warcraft to lost vikings? Is it even possible to think up a storyline to fit this concept..... Ugh.. speculation sucks

When they announced SC2 the splash screens were a series of retrospectives of all their franchises.

Blizz has been working on a number of projects now for 2-3 years so it wouldn't be suprising to see D3 preview, WOTLK release date, SC2 release date, plus some info on their next MMO, which has been under dev for a year now - perhaps thats the purple monster.

1 year development for a Blizzard MMO and we hope for info? Don't most normal mmo makers take 2-3 years? This is almost like Blizzard telling us that starcraft to is being worked up and will be up for release on oct 19. 2011.
