Unfortunately, money is necessary for everything nowadays. Those special events you hate help garner thousands of casuals whose monthly payments build zones like Sunwell Plateau.

Who built up? Games Workshop?

It's all about money. GW created a storyline to sell miniature figures. Blizzard borrowed it to sell computer games. What either company wants to sell next will dictate "lore".

I can agree they sold out for success I mean casual is most of their player base. Yes they added quests for the fuzzy bunny crowd. You can still hunt down and kill those fuzzy bunnies though. One good wand blast and bunnies will be dead over and over.

I still remember the lore in the Plaguelands and it was awesome. So just ignore the fuzzy bunnies and get to killing some undead.

But they've always done stuff like this to make money. As people above stated. It's not selling out. It's continuing to do what they do best. Make a game that is fun that goes to as many customers as possible.

To the person who gave me the below comment, learn to read perhaps? NPC faction dumbass. Means not a faction players can attain. If you haven't had the pleasure of following the Royal Apothecary Society storyline I suggest you do just that. It has some of the darkest, most twisted humor in WarCraft to date.

Anyways...

Dumar, I do understand where you're coming from here. You're just overreacting broseph. It's small, fun, easy to implement and do tongue-in-cheek humor/timekillers. It adds life to WarCraft and makes it seem so much more like a living world rather then just a never ending RTS.

One would think you of all people would appreciate that. But it's not done right is it? If only...if only Warcraft could add flavor right! We should be able to drown the children in the blood of their fathers. Yeah! And it should be collars from the Running Man where if you go outside the bounds of your slave pens your head blows up! Fuck those friends bracelets man! Why cater less then 2% of your games content to the handful of people who enjoy making tuxedo's and collecting pets when we could be ANALLY RAPING SHIT! FUCK YEAH!

If only they did it right. It would be like Ultima Online. They did it right!

no. here is where you sorta make excuses for it. the atmosphere in wc2 was very much darker. of course they wanted to make money, but apparently they cared about the lore and story in their game. i remember the pic of the orc holding up a human head as an example. this made them lots of money and fans of their game and company.

now, to make more money, they take that idea and smooth it out as much as possible so everyone can consume it. the artists' idea has now become an asset on the balance sheet. what is unique about it now lorewise? it's a horrible, giant mess. and the best part is they could care less.

that's the difference. i'm not saying try not to be successful. i said to call it like it is. and it's called selling out.

and no, not every company does this. almost all do, but it's disrespectful to claim every company wholly and utterly adheres to the bottom line without regard whatsoever to love of the game. treasure and team ico would laugh at you.

that sounds way fun. i just wanted them to be consistent, that's all. i don't expect the next john rambo to be a disney movie kinda thing.
