It's really a win-win situation regardless of which franchise they choose to go with for their next-gen MMO, because at this rate it looks like the only company that will produce an MMO to trump World of Warcraft will be Blizzard.

I'm as big of a Diablo fan as anyone, I remember downloading the Diablo 1 beta test on my 28.8 modem. It took over 2 days and my entire month's worth of internet

You're using words like "ruined" as if it's universal. Ruined how? Because it's got 10m players and a huge market share? If so, you're like the emo-kid who thinks his band sold out in 1985 when other people started listening to them. WoW is more popular today than ever before. And the story has been greatly expanded upon as a MMO, giving players the almost literal ability to live there. MMO's are perhaps the greatest template upon which to tell a story. If that's ruined, I'm scared to ask how they could've made it better in your eyes.

| World of Diablo and Diablo 1/2 shouldn't really be comparable anyway. Seriously one is designed with the intention of being an RTS and another is designed with the intention of being an MMO. In one you control minions, in the other you are the minion. All they should take from diablo is the lore, background, story, basic character templates. But the mechanics should be tweaked to fit the different environment/game.

Although the collective nerd-rage when it turns out to be WotLK will be new epic proportions, I almost hope it's Starcraft Ghost. That might even cause a few folks after all the build-up to go, "Oh. Meh." Yeah, I'm starting to wonder how Mist got so far off their own original point

| I'm not trolling. I just think what made the Diablo games Diablo games is the gameplay, not all the rest of the horsehit. Diablo was an awesome game because you had a town here with a few vital NPCs, and then vast fields of walking treasure chests to slaughter right outside the gate, loot and coin flying everywhere. Any game that doesn't have that isn't worthy of being called Diablo. |
