Battlegrounds in WoW got a lot of players into PvP who stayed away from it before hand, mostly due to horrible experiences with it in EQ and UO.

Of course, many will say battlegrounds aren't real PvP, but I think the fact is, the number of people who enjoy getting ganked by people who are 10+ levels or by groups outnumber them 5-to-1 is a pretty small minority.

And the person who gave you that -internets has an opinon shared by many. A lot of people are sick of on side of PvE/PvP being nerfed because of the other one, because they only play one or the other.

Maybe there needs to be another Guildwars-style title with mostly PvP with a small side of PvE? I'm not sure myself.

I've always said that it should be that you retune damage and abilities dependant on if your attacking a mob or a player. Resilience was a bit like that, but it put it into the hands of players and made it part of the gear.

Blizzard have always said they didn't want to do that as it made classes play differently between PvE and PvP, but resilence does that anyway. If you dont you get into the constant cycle of PVP impacting upon PVE impacting upon PVP etc etc.

This board doesn't represent a good balance of consumers. It is very heavily biased towards PVE only. With the standard hardcore UO/EVE pvpers mixed in. The vast majority of casual gamers, pvp and pvers, and active pvpers aren't represented here much. so you get dumb posts like that. and the superlove for EQ and its gaming model.

There's of course a solution to that problem in a WoW-type game. It's called the pvp-mode, and works like this:

- When your opponent is flagged as PvP, then every combat formula assumes that your opponent has the same level as you, and vice-versa (your hit is against an opponent of same level, your AC assumes the same, and so on).
- Your damage is modified by the ratio of your opponent level against yours. You're level 20, your opponent is level 40? He hits you at half damage, you hit him a double damage.

(of course, this has to change once you go over 60, since the level stat progression changed from a linear to an exponential formula, where every 10 levels means double stats)

Of course, maxed level characters still get an advantage, because they usually collected max level equipment vs progression equipment. And you enjoy more talent points. But you can't gank a level 70 at 80 with absolute impunity - you have to work a bit on your pvp skills.

Cue the roving packs of lowbies to grief higher level players with little to lose.

How is that different than high levels ganking the shit out of low levels? At least the high levels could just go to zones that would be a tad bit unsafe for low levels.
