fyi, beam nerf didn't go live with SoF launch. It was supposted to, but didnt. We had a wizard hit 80 the first day of expansion with it.

What are the current good EQ communities? Any websites or forums with continuing EQ coverage like the old days? Forums? I'd love an active EQ1 community to lurk - some place where people post movies and junk like you see for wow now. Every old site I used to go to feels like a ghost town now with lots of RMT ads.

I like SoF a lot so far. I hit 80 on the 3rd day after it went live and started aa'ing right away. The new aa's are very impressive, lots of upgrades across the board in general, arch and class. I'm pretty happy with the necro aa's. Some of the filler aa's for pets look kinda retarded but a year from now it's probably all going to be bought up when the good aa's are done.

The new zones are fun and interesting. I like this expansion better than about any other I can remember at release. I've spent a lot of time in fortress mechanotus and the gyrospires. The S.H.I.P. is pretty cool. Factory has an insane amount of tough mobs. I'm guessing a lot of zones like this with ultra fast respawns with so many mobs in tight areas are gonna be tough at release but once players gear up it's going to become the norm for well geared players. There's some mediocre gear upgrades I've seen dropping in the zones, nothing spectacular but the tradeskill gear looks incredible. I'm real curious to see how raid gear vs ts gear is going to be near the end of the expansion. If the TS gear is as good as I hear it could make being a more casual player a LOT more friendly and raiders could neglect the armor upgrades in favor TS gear and save dkp for other slots. I guess it depends what the TS gear foci look like. Demi armor foci were a HELL of a lot better than TS armor foci were. I hope they don't make that mistake again.

This expansion seems much more interesting than the previous one (the name slips my mind). It almost makes me want to come back...sadly.

Is the camera system in EQ still kind of weird, like where it wouldn't act like a true chase camera in 3rd peson mode? I remember the only options back in 2001 were very limited in that area. I realize most people say it's better to play EQ in first person but I'm really acclimated to 3rd person chase style. First person view also makes me feel like I'm losing peripheral vision. :P

My gf I suppose uses the chase cam, not sure I exactly understand what the chase cam is. She scrolls back so she sees behind the character. I hate that though and only use first person. Every rpg I played since Wizardry7 in 91 uses first person so that's what I prefer w/ the occasional tab through camera views to look at myself from a distance if I'm watching around myself from FD or somethin.

Even after playing wow I perfer EQ in first person. The camera is still pretty bad but I suppose its usable.

WoW is impossible to play in 1st person, EQ is impossible to play in third person. It's more than just camera angles, really.

I use both actually. Once in camp I switch to 3rd person. Can see so much more. I feel like I have blinders on with 1st person in EQ when in a static camp.

I am also a floater (e.g constant levi) so I am probably on the lunatic fringe.

I have to echo the fun with the new expansion. Me and a friend are running a group up to 80 in the roaming mech robot dungeon, then will slip in the alts that are at 75 and waiting.

The tier 1 named stuff is not that bad. Just under 300hps, stats, heroic stats, some focus. The named pop after you kill a certain amount of mobs it seems. No ph's.
