A retreat from other games, Free Beta / FTP. Every now and then, I'm bored beyond imagination from the constant grind of World of Warcraft, or similar games. My old retreat usally consisted of Diablo 2 playing on open with the illegitament duelist ladders, or an FPS; times change and I look other places, one that I keep an eye on often is MMORPG Free Online Games RPG Directory - ONRPG.com there you find tons of MMoRPG or FPS games from Korean publishers and european publishers, nothing really big named though. There's one that had me going for a few weeks, Tantra, it was simple, very basic and had very high death penalties like old Everquest. I wonder though, how many other people go to a site like this just to waste time on these beta / free RPGs and if you've actually thought about building one with the thought in mind from other cultured RPGs? What games from these sites have you thoroughly enjoy, and what was it that made you enjoy them? Looking through so many of these Korean or no-name European RPG groups, they have wonderful graphic engines, great game play, and wonderful ideas on how a class should be, can be, or will be. They just do not get the publicity like the big names though.

It's not, I'd just like some honest, open opinions. If you think it's shill, then you should claim ProjectEQ or ClassicEQ project a shill. I'm all for people recreating an old game, but it's just that, an old game. There was no greater thrill than the first time playing an elf in Greater Fay without a map and their botched /loc command that ran you around you corpse for hours because there were absolutely NO markers designated where the hell you died. Thrills like that, It was said best by someone in that thread, there has and will be no other game that would really put them at the edge of their seat because you actually grew attachment, and feared the loss of your work. There were not 3 million other people in the game with the same gear as you. You were lucky to see 3 people worldwide pre-instance with the same stuff as you when you progressed through raid content. I'm just looking for non-instanced games that have a similar thrill. Just seeking open, honest opinions on that concept.

I spent a little time going through some of these games out of curiosity. I was suprised by just how many of them there are, but in the end I lost interest fairly quickly. They seem to consider that implementing class progression and endless plains with a profusion of characterless mobs to grind through is all there is to a MMORPG. This is generally combined with skimpy drops, punitive death penalties and non-consensual PvP to imitate an end-game and make the crawl up the levels even more tedious.

+8 Internets | It isn't an MMOG, but since you mentioned Diablo 2 then I highly recommend Titan Quest with Immortal Throne expansion. Its the next best thing to Diablo 3, whenever that happens. |

That website is focused too much on ads and not presenting a good list of free MMOs. FilePlanet Free MMO Club – Free to Play MMO Games with Bonus Content has a nice list though if you are looking at trying some free MMO games
