Vanguard Development Moves to the San Diego Studio

And it looks like Hasium is gone or no longer the project manager for Vanguard?

Vanguard Development Moves to the San Diego Studio

Quote:
The Vanguard development team is relocating its offices to SOE's San Diego campus effective Monday, October 15, 2007. As part of the integration into the SOE family, the developers will benefit from having access to shared resources and the combined experience of SOE's other game development teams. As a result, not every Carlsbad employee has been invited to stay with the development team.

Under the new leadership of Thom Terrazas, an eight-year SOE veteran, SOE will continue its commitment to Vanguard and its players. The remaining Vanguard team members are going to continue to deliver on an exceptional product. They are a creative force in the online games space and we look forward to continuing the vision for Vanguard and to continue to deliver groundbreaking game play. SOE remains committed to seeing Vanguard grow and prosper.
So, spill the beans, who else is gone (developers) with this move?

Heh, I can guess who jayrebb hopes is gone.

Personally, I hope this new guy can finally put this game on the right tracks.

Oh, and "This could change it around for Vanguard!".

'This could turn it around for Vanguard' is the phrase!

I wonder if this is what prompted Cylus to quit though.

According to him, no. But eh, who knows!

Blah blah, turn it around, blah blah.

Too brown.

But Brad made EQ!

Etcetera.

It sounds more like they're picking the most promising developers from the remaining Sigil crew and assimilating them before closing down Vanguard for good.

EDIT: Cynical 1337 post ftw.

For some reason I keep imagining a group of Devs who look like Katrina refugees while Smed clears out some old boxes in the the basement.

Smed: Okay, you nine all pile up and work in here. It's more than enough room for what you're doing.

Vanguard Devs: But...

Smed: Get in the fucking corner and shut up!

Maybe he'll toss them some El Pollo Loco scraps, and a partially drank flat half-litre of Mountain Dew from time to time. Nine men enter, one man gets a job on EQ2. It's Thunderdome baby.

Scott will be telling people for years that the basement is haunted with the ghosts of Devs from failed MMO's. He's going to become like that kid from the Sixth Sense, or worse: The Dev Whisperer.

Seriously though. It's not like anyone in *any* industry likes seeing a competitor get picked up and worse.....merged into their building. Despite the company line: "We love sharing ideas, meeting new faces while getting to renew relations with some old ones!"

This made me think of the SOE office like the Sims, with them building a little room for the VG devs with no exits and no bathroom.

All of them running around peeing themselves in a panic and turning to ghosts.

I see this whole VG thing as a blow to mmorpgs and nothing to look forward to for the next few years. Except Wow cookie cutter exp pack sometime in 2009.
