I actually really enjoyed Asheron's Call 2, and wish I played it a lot more since I'll never get to play it again. Seriously, some of the most fun classes I've ever played.

Thing is. The majority doesn't care. Ever date someone and have a great time, but then you find out her X is someone you hate? That's Vanguard. Doesn't matter now that she has a shiny new pimp, and a new set of tits. She's still Vanguard, and she still has Brad's stink all over her. You reminded me with the 20-30 FPS how Brad came to these forums and lied his ass off about performance. I think he even went so far as to say it ran better than WoW and EQ2 on most machines. But it went far beyond simple lying to promote your product. Way beyond that. Threads like that one should've found their way into the Hall of Shame just for posterity.

| Fixed. The writing is on the wall, sadly. People do not play games for potential unless it is realized. Companies do not pour money into "potential" either, unless it is realized. If SOE had been seriously committed to continuing Vanguard development, they would have thrown a decent budget and additional developers behind it. They didn't. GU3.1 did add some good things for the game, but just enough for it to be an acceptable Station Pass addition. I'm anxious to see when 3.2 and 3.3 will make it in given the new circumstances. Plus, it makes more sense to fund and support a reasonably healthy EQ2, their own baby, than to feed and clothe Vanguard, the red-headed stepchild of Brad McQuaid. And just to be fair, Bongk, you could consider me one of those "dumbasses" for Horizons; I certainly wouldn't say the game itself is good, but certain elements of it show promise, in my opinion: multi-classing, unlimited crafting classes for one toon, dragon classes, undead attacks on the cities, the rebuilding of ruins/statues/mines, etc. I wanted to see Vanguard succeed, but the outlook is not pretty, and it's time to be realistic. I must be the Dr. Cameron of failing MMOs. |

| For what it's worth....I decided to try it out again. Todays patch has made a HUGE difference in FPS. I was pulling MAXIMUM 30 FPS on a high medium settings with an 8800GTS (not the 320...forget the damn mem) DC AMD 5k+ and 3 gigs of mem. Now? I am hitting 55 FPS on a regular basis rarely dipping into the 20's on medium high. Decided to bump to high settings. Mid to low 40's in the FPS's. Some dips into the 20's. Smooth as pie. The biggest fix? That damn stuttering is gone. Another thing of note. Right off the bat I am getting group invites as a lvl 10 bard. There looks to be a decent community at the low levels. I may play the month out...see how it goes. Last edited by Vekruul Shuth; 10-16-2007 at 03:19 PM.. |

+13 Internets | Honestly, I'm enjoying VG with a steady group (brotherhood). I'm really casual though. If I ever go back to 40+ hours, WoW will be it.

| Brotherhood is extremely groovy. Big shame they didn't put it in back in Jan when they had it almost finished. Solves the problem of the static group of friends with a mix of playstyles.

| No, whatever happened to the entire team...aren't there like...a dozen, two dozen people working on it now? How anyone can expect anything more than very casual play while waiting for another game out of Vanguard is beyond me. |

+1 Internets | The soap opera that is the MMORPG genre has become a monument to wasted potential, and SoE built the foundation. I don't blame Brad. He had employees to pay, so selling out to SoE was more a question of letting his employees' children eat. I don't blame SoE. They're a vampiric corporation that lets its victims live just long enough to come back and drain a trickle more for a while, but you can't blame a leech for being a leech, especially if it's really good at leeching. You can't blame the fans. Ever. I blame Microsoft. Their greed drove them to try and force VG to be a Vista only title, and if it weren't for that, the game would only just now be hitting open beta. And I blame brown. I blame it too much. |
