[EQ2] RoK Beta for FF and EQinox is on

Just saw on the main EQ2 boards that access to the Rise of Kunark beta has been opened up for all Fan Faire attendees as well as EQinox subscribers.

Link to BetaEQ2 Client -- http://download.station.sony.com/pat...q2/BetaEQ2.zip

...and just to help out.....

Quote:
Tips for a successful Beta patch:

1. Copy your entire EverQuest II folder into a second folder, except for the folders below. I recommend something simple like C:\Program Files\Sony\Beta EverQuest II\
Do not copy the following folders, in order to save disk space and to prevent any log in issues: "cache", "logs", "screenshots", "Test Server".
I also recommend you do not copy the "UI" folder, and use only the default UI. Custom UIs have issues with Beta, and unless you feel like mucking around with them, don't bother copying the custom UI over.
You'll need a minimum of 10 gigabytes of free disk space in order to copy the entire EQ2 folder, and in order to patch Rise of Kunark.
2. Copy the BetaEQ2.exe folder into your Beta folder.
3. From within your Beta folder, run BetaEQ2.exe. You will need to run in Administrator mode (Vista users, you should turn on Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, and run as administrator).
4. The patcher itself will update, then load the login page. Go ahead and log in using your station ID and password.
5. The patcher will do a thorough check on your files, then begin downloading the necessary files. This will take a long time, depending on your connection speed (On my 1.5Mbps DSL line, it took a little over 3 hours). The entire download for Rise of Kunark Beta is around 1.8 gigabytes uncompressed, but the EQ2 patcher downloads them as compressed files and decompresses them, so the actual amount downloaded is probably significantly less.
6. Once the download is complete, I recommend performing a thorough file check, just to be sure everything downloaded correctly.
Preferences -> check all your optional downloads you want first -> Click "Full File Scan".
This will take some time. Be patient!
7. When the thorough file check is complete, click Play.
8. Welcome to Beta!

To play Beta from this point on, simply make a shortcut to BetaEQ2.exe on your desktop, and use that shortcut to open the Beta. Unless something breaks, you shouldn't need to see the Beta folder again. But, considering this is Beta, that need may arise.

To get your character copied, log into your desired character on your Normal EQ2 server, and type the command "/beta add". It will add it to the copy queue (which I'm told runs every night/early morning Pacific time), and you should see it on the Beta server within 24 to 48 hours after that point.
See you in Kunark!

If you are wanting to purchase a subscription to get into RoK beta, that offer ended long ago...

No, it was buying a magazine, whether it was worth or not is another matter.

I wouldnt even call it a magazine. It was a booklet with player-made fanfic in the world of Everquest. At least thats what it looked like from the website they had up for ordering it. Pretty lame attempt at cashing in on the beta invite if you ask me.

No way am I paying money for a fanmade magazine unless it was advertised as such. Kind of disappointing to hear what they did with it.

Hope people enjoy the beta they paid for!

EQuinox or however it was written has been a total delusion if I can dare saying that.
First it wasn't worth the price at all, let alone the huge mail fee, second, while it was graphically well done, I didn't like at all the guild advertising thing.
There were articles in it of abysmal low quality in terms of usefulness, at least they were written in plain English.

Maybe someone should have thought that a magazine for a solid "old" playerbase, shouldn't have focused on "how to use the broker" and stuff like that, but on some more intriguing aspects of the game.
If they think anyone is crazy enough to buy 24 issues of that magazine to read the class guide in them (that is honestly useless even to a total newbie), I can only say 'good luck', you're gonna need it.

I got it for collection value, for the same reason I buy the collector's edition of each game I buy, for sure I'm not touching an eventual 2nd issue with a 10ft pole.

I don't understand the purpose of gaming magazines anymore unless they have some super editorials and great writing. Even then, all reviews, strategies, and debate I could ever want is easily found online for free.
