yep, I bought an AV710 for my home theater PC, flawless optical 7.1 channel output

Had a creative soundblaster card years ago, it sucked then and theyre still terrible now, their drivers are the worst

THe asus motherboard that I bought when upgrading my system a couple months ago came with the ADI onboard sound, but I had also bought a Creative X-Fi (again) to replace my Audigy 2. The X-Fi turned out to be a total piece of shit, with the same random clicks / static going off at any time, so I took that back. Decided to try out the onboard sound, and it worked ok, even had Vista 64-bit drivers available, but sounded very "thin", so after a week and installed my old Audigy card. Works great, and sounds much better than the ADI onboard.

Considered buying a M-Audio card since I've heard nothing but good things about them, but I could never find Vista drivers for it, so I passed. Also looked at the Auzentech cards, but it seems their latest is going to be using the X-Fi engine from Creative, so my experience with X-Fi shit turned me away. So I'm staying with my Audigy, works great for me.

Well I got to hear it for myself this weekend and.. wow. I can sum up Karazahn as "URRGH.. ARRGH.. OOOHH. URRGH.. OOOH. AAARGH... RAAAHR.. OOOOH... OWWWW!" The loudest sound was the constant grunts of pain from whatever mob was getting beat on, even though I was standing 30 feet away spamming fireball. Sucks SO bad.

So, a week in, does ANYONE use the Blizzard VOIP? My guild still uses the vent server we always have, and none of the pugs I've done will touch it either. The quality is shit, and the volume seems to be hard capped at 30dB

Did they really spend 4 months developing a VOIP system just to thoroughly fuck the sound system and make a feature that no one uses?

I've overheard parts of conversations by people who either forgot to turn on PTT or have the PTT the same as for Ventrillo. That's about it, and I've been doing multiple heroic pugs a day since it was activated.

New drivers from Creative released on 10/7 fixed all my sound issues.
