Long duration buffs, in every fucking game that uses them, should simply be a toggle.

I said it multiple times in multiple places and in multiple topics: this game is not far from greatness, but remains average because the dev team should do what is considered too much work or possibly too risky work in order to make the game awesome.

I'll sum it up:

- redo completely melee combat, it sucks badly. I said completely, get rid of mana for melees as well.
- consolidate 24 classes into 12, add one or two interesting classes, say "fuck off" to the archetype system and to dps tiers.
- redo the buff system: it's useless and boring. Really, it's annoying to even look at the buff bar. Melees with 5-8 buffs... wtf?
- make content more challenging: when we play with a full group, the only limiting factor on how many mob we can pull is... drumroll... LAG. We managed to wipe because in Kaladim we filled the screen with mobs and I went down to 1-5fps (with an 8800 video card).
- get rid of encounter system, put back some pulling tools, wider social agro and make CC or pulling tools useful.

At this point, you have a very good game. While you do that above SoE, please have someone work on the engine and improve it.

It's kind of funny how history repeats it self in some ways. For instance, in EQ1, they used to not include all the patch notes (where the term stealth nerf comes from) and now in EQ2, they are sliding down the same slippery slope. The patch notes used to be very good for EQ2, say less then 5% of the changes going in were not documented, but now ? I swear to god, the "changes not in patch notes" are coming close in length to what they are actually telling us.

Not only that, but they don't bother to clearly explain WHY they change things. They throw out these dogshit changes like the one to status items, and leave us scratching our heads trying to figure out what the goal of the change is (to prevent powerleveling a guild is the most likely reason) and once we have that, we then try to figure out why this shitty change, was the one that won out over all the rest. Clearly (and we have covered it with them) there were several far better solutions to the issue, why this one was used is a mystery.

There are so many annoying and distracting (you fucking GM's are ruining my role play experience !!!) bugs in this game, it slowly but surely begins to drive you insane. Bugs that are reported in game, bugs that are talked about on these forums, on their forums, are emailed in directly, and yet months go by and there is no solution.

Why when I log into an alt do I get spammed error messages about trying to join chat channels that my main belongs to ? OF COURSE my 30 monk can't join the Evil Dirge channel. NO FUCKING SHIT SHERLOCK. How hard this can be to fix I don't know, but I doubt you are inventing the wheel on that one.

Why do my goddamned inventory bags keep moving around when I alt tab ? Why ? Do I need to dig up the patch notes to point out where to claimed to fix this issue ? Guess what, that shit didn't take ! Fix it already.

I won't even go into housing, thats an entire rant right there and it's clear they don't give a shit. I do however suggest you don't bother giving us housing in RoK. Why would you bother ? We know you don't give a shit about it. You will probably launch with an incomplete housing set up (no status housing in Neriak ring any bells ?) and in the end, its smack dab in the middle of a 1-20 zone. Why would people want to move to the MMO suburbs when all the bells, all the status merchants, all the special event NPC's. and all the people are concentrated into the main cities ?

Just fucking spare us this time. People live in Neriak and Kelethin for Nostalgia reasons only. Both cities are laggy as shit (and you know it) with Neriak giving memory dump and crash errors if you spend too much time there (go visit your tech forums if you are unaware) and more people then I care to remember heavily, HEAVILY regret moving from a main city to one of the burb cities. How long after launch did it take you guys to add status housing, and tradeskill factions, and full service bells ? Heres an idea, don't launch the shit until it is complete ? You need a lesson on this, look no further then here.

I do also, agree with the OP, the older overland zones, while okay, are dogshit in comparrison to the new ones. I prefer to still run the old zones because I know them and I know where everything is, but given the issues you identified, I think this latest alt will be heading for the expansion zones instead.

OHHHHHHH yes, I almost forgot this peach ! Can you explain to me, why good types can take the carpet from SS to BBM, while the evil types have to sit and wait for the boat ? Who is the fucking moron behind that change. Are you reading this ? FUCK YOU. On top of that, who is the moron who decided to put the carpet for Neriak OUTSIDE the city and a 5 minute run away ? WHO ? YOU NEED TO BE FIRED RIGHT NOW. NOW !

I know its rediculous to say the devs hate evil or prefer the good side, but those two idiotic decisions do NOTHING but add to and enhance the myth.

This whole thread is really moot though, it's crunch time for RoK so we aren't going to get a whole lot if any of these things addressed. Hell the team went to fan faire and we had an entire week of shitty lag that apparently couldnt be fixed, despite me being told, officially "we have someone working on it, and it is our best someone". Whoopdy fucking do community rep. Put 10 somebodies on it, put the entire goddamned staff on it. Raids and events got cancelled again and again for an entire week while the team was on "vacation". Funny, how the problem was almost immediately corrected once the team got back in town. Yeah, the best someone my ass.

Finally, in closing, it is poor form, and poor judgment to release patches before a weekend, a holiday, or any other significant event. Nearly 9 years of evidance across many major MMO's have borne this out. Stop shitting on your coders and programers and support staff by dropping bombs on Friday afternoon etc, so they end up having to work a shit ton of hours, burning the candle at both ends to fix the shitty mess you have unleashed on them.

Have some respect for your staff, and have some respect for your playerbase.

I made it to 30something in EQ2 before I gave up. People say EoF is so great but leveling in Butcherblock sucked ass. I tried some zone near Qeynos too but it was just a big field. Boring.

I quit at 38 ish I think. I actually preferred the older zones over Faydark etc because running into geometry just pisses me off no end. I am weird like that though.

Most of the things mentioned here need fixing right enough (especially scout abilities) but while EQ 2 has indeed 'turned it around', it lacks a cohesive vision for what type of game it is trying to be. Focus on one thing, polish it until it shines, then bite off another chunk.

They are. A new mapping system is in the works. I believe it incorperates most of the features of EQ2maps and it easier to read.

Well if you are neriak you have a one click transport to the TS/NEK docks... I think that sort of balances out.


I got to 66 this time through and just got bored again.

I think the only reason I made it to 66 is because I discovered body pulling and that had me interested thinking there might be other unknowns I could discover... but by the time I was 66 I pretty much came to terms with a single method of pulling =P.

In EQ I was a bard. Every pull situation was case by case. Sometimes you just pull, sometimes you lull a few then pull, sometimes you mezz one let the other chase you fade and then tag, sometimes you just lulled and ran past, a lot of the time you had to work with a second puller or even as a whole group to pull. It was a constant strategy game.

EQ2 is body pull, kill, body pull, kill, body pull, kill, etc...

There isn't any point to fighting hard stuff really, other than if you want a challenge. Sure you could get level appropriate gear by killing reds, but you could also run around collecting ?'s for an hour and then buy the same stuff.

The lore and flavor in EQ2 is fantastic, but just over-all it seems to be lacking something.

In Dark Age of Camelot we called mobs like that BAF'ers (bring a friend). Resubbed, had my fun, and I'm crew out again. Why? Not because of buffs or from Neriak (and to people having trouble in that area I say: it really is time to upgrade the computer. Trying to play with the computer you thought was good at launch is just dumb.) but because it just wasn't fun after a while.

Spamming the same spells, while yes, I have to have two full rows of spells I MIGHT need, and harvesting, praying for a rare just gets really old. I see someone here was doing the grind hoping raiding was as fun as their 70 friends said it was. Good luck, I couldn't make it. In all the grouping I did I feel like it didn't matter what healing class it was, we were all the same. People are having intense discussing in public chat over fury/warden...I played both, and could heal equally well on both. There were two types of encounters: mind-numbingly easy and oh-shiz-someone-evac-us.

Body pulling needs to go, yesterday. I don't know who this made sense to but its the worst thing to ever happen to pulling, bar none. If you pull someone with your proximity for some reason his friends don't come, but shooting him with a bow brings the wrath of satan down on you.
