We have been raiding for the last couple of months and never have a "slideshow". Were you experiencing this in certain raid spots? All the zones in KoS (Labs/HoS/LoA/DT) have been fine. Even the EoF stuff we started working on has not had any lag issues from any of our raiders. I don't even have to turn down my normal graphics to play, like some people report.

Get better equipment and you'd end up lagging to all hell like the top-end. It was common for anybody with that equipment and the lag difference is easily seen by people. Of course, now that the encounters are already trivial, they're even more trivial without the lag.

I was mostly responding to Kreugen. I don't think he was doing high end KoS stuff before he left EQ2, but I could be wrong. I really don't think he was doing EoF stuff with end game equipment.

If you turn on spell effects it becomes a slideshow, if it doesn't you can't see anything anyways from the massive amount of spell effects going on. There doesnt' seem to be a good happy medium with spell effects in the game.

Sanctum has way more named than Permafrost and maybe just a couple less than Runnyeye. Depending on the level you are doing it it may just seem like less because you aren't dominating the zone like you may have done the others? Just a guess on my part on the reason for the feeling you came away with but trust me Sanctum has tons of named (do you have eq2maps installed? there are red dots everywhere). As for frequency of legendary/fabled, the older zones do have "better" drops in that regard but that is by design and one with which most people seem to agree. 4 wooden chests isnt outrageously bad for tier 7/Sanctum but its not normal either. In a bigger sample I am sure the rate would go more like 7 wood, 3 legendary, 1 fabled. Thats personal experience of many named kills in Sanctum.

Braene is correct on the relatively decent graphics performance of EQ2 during raids - as long as you completely re-train your brain from thinking your "uber" PC setup can handle any current game on max settings.

My PC is about a year old (C2Duo e6600, 8800GTX, 2mb Mushkin RAM, Raptor drives, etc.), but any in-game setting above "Balanced" (i.e., fairly decent character models - not blobs - but minimal other effects) or forcing any sort of AA/AF in the nVidia CP is just asking for a slideslow in EQ2 raids. Heck, I can max out every single option in the nVidia CP and in-game in WoW, and still get 120+ FPS (with v-synch off, of course) in AV while taking SP GY with 20 Alliance defenders, 35 Horde players, 10 NPCs, 200 spell effects, etc. This same situation would get .1-4 FPS in EQ2, unfortunately.

My two cents on other EQ2 goodness/badness:

Since it's only been said about fifty times in this thread, I'll re-iterate the "way too many skills" line. I played an Illusionist from 1-70 (over the course of nearly 3 years off and on). Once I got into the "raid" game, I noticed pretty fast that I was barely watching the fight on-screen (other than panning around to watch for adds, as my "CC" role sometimes required). About 95% of my raid time is spent staring at 60 hotkey buttons and spamming whichever one of them is currently usable that seems most productive (feeding power to the tank, DOTs, nukes, group +mana, etc.).

The in-game chat channels is a great idea, and one of *very* few things that keeps me logging into EQ2 as opposed to WoW. WoW just seems so very dead compared to the constant chatter in EQ2. I play these games to socialize, dang it, and playing solo in WoW is basically no different than playing NWN2. Sure, the EQ2 channels (even on the "RP" server) have their fair share of the "u"-speaking retards, but a quick /ignore takes care of that problem. Of course, I played when the "LookingForGroup" channel was auto-join and worldwide in WoW, and I'm sure we all remember how horrid that was. Segregating the channels by levels (1-10, 11-20, etc.) seems to work out pretty well in EQ2, and I think Blizzard should steal this idea.

SoE really, really needs to re-do the entire graphics engine for EQ2. I know this has been said 89,943 times on this forum, but I think this would do more for EQ2's subscriber base than any temporary cash haul from selling an expansion. Besides basic performance issues, they really need to steal the "rounded terrain" thing from WoW. You know how hills/knolls/mountains in WoW all have that "rounded off on top" thing? Well, that looks a million times better than the "this hill has FOUR polygons" amateur crap that EQ2 uses. Character models is part of this, of course, and while re-doing those SoE needs to work harder on the "mangina factor" which is responsible for a huge percentage of subs in these games. There really aren't many "hot" female character models in EQ2, and they really missed out on the animations (human boob bounce in "sigh" animation, NE boob bounce, perky BE boobies, etc.) that any of you - honest - guys playing WoW would admit are sorta cool. Every single female toon in EQ2 has poorly crafted, rock-solid boobies. Very boring.

If every encounter for RoK isn't finished yet (get me in beta, Braene!!!11), I certainly wish they'd make about 5000% more of them that actually have a use for a "crowd control" class such as myself. EQ2 simply isn't designed as a CC game, unfortunately, and for somebody like me who is basically only interested in playing this type of class, the rest of the game is quite tenuous in holding my interest (*VERY* tenuous, if my recent attendance in Mistwalkers is any indication). 95% of the time, it's just easier to AE or burn down the mobs than to use any sort of CC. The fact that a large percentage of EQ2s level 60+ population has never even grouped with an Illusionist/Coercer is a major symptom of this problem. Having recently changed class to Coercer, I'm not complaining about that class' overall usefulness (which is quite high), but there really isn't much in the way of "crowd control" going on, even in non-Epic grouping situations.

Bottom line, for you SoE and Blizzard readers: I play WoW for the extreme polish, the "fun factor" (the classes are extremely well designed and all "fun" in some way, and Battlegrounds/PvP. I play EQ2 for the *VASTLY* more mature playerbase on the RP servers, the chat channels and the large amount of content for an explorer type like me. Since EQ2 is definitely not going to fulfill the PvP/BG consumer in me, you're going to have to keep me around by beating WoW at the rest of that list.

I tend to avoid having particle effects on (at least high) when I'm raiding because even though it doesn't seem to stutter or whatever, it seems to make my casting speed much slower. When I first started going through Castle Mistmoore (if you've been there, you know), I had my particles on and my casting speed was slower. This is without the debuff, mind you. When I turned off my particles, my casting speed was back to normal.

What SoE needs to do is:

1) Spell and Class consolidation
2) Revamp dungeons
2a) Give bosses new skins so they look different instead of a giant droag or a random vampire
3) Make lag not so much of a problem. They introduced contested spawns and they should've foreseen the issues that might've could've ensued. Last night, we were fighting Pumpkin Headed Horseman and there were several other guilds there and it was a lagfest. When we fought Avatar of Flame, there were over 120 people in Lavastorm and there was roughly 2-6 second delay which caused awful problems when dealing with adds.

I use ProfitUI and it has a little window where you switch from raid performance and quality on the fly. I almost always run around with everything on except shadows, but on raids I turn off everything, I don't care what others look like or care to see their cloak flapping in the breeze during raids. The spell effects of 24 people in one place is blinding, same as original EQ, but atleast you had /spelldetail command there.

WoW never seemed to have alot of blinding spell effects, atleast not centered around the caster like in EQ2. So I'd just raid with max settings in WoW.

I remember that too, but thats only as long as you level. As soon you stop to replace your 20 levels-too-low stuff you notice. Its all bland trash. Talking of 1 year into it from the beginning/release(which is totallly outdated now).

anyways, no noone believes it would happen. The fact that it wont happen wont change the fact that 24 classes and 24 raidspots is beyond retarded.

And tbh, your offense tank wont suddenly turn into a wizard, it would become a tank. Your defense bard wont turn into a tank, it would justt become a bard. your defensive cleric wont turn into an assasin it would just end up being a cleric etc, etc, etc.

edit in: oh and if you played your char since week 3 then you have to be totally blind to not realise that it allready was changed so much that it dont exist anymore.

I have to be honest though, EQ2's team has done a good job at bring a fundamentally awful original design into something average. The game just has to many inherent flaws to make it a great game.

Amen, you have not experienced button spamming until you have played an AGI spec'd Illusionist.

I find it fun playing an Illusionist the way they are. But people saying Illusionists are staring at 60-hotkey are full of shit. I stare at maybe 8 buttons a fight, nowhere near this "60" bullshit people are coming up with. Sure I have 10 full hotbars, but you know what 6 of those are for quick access potions or gear switching. While 1 is for buffs that are always up, and the other 3 are for in-combat abilities, most of which I barely ever cast during a fight because why do I need to mez in current EQ2 raids?

As an Illusionist I have 8 spells that I spam in combat constantly and probably 4-6 other spells that get mixed in as permitted. DPSing as an Illusionist with Perpetually is one of the craziest key spamming specs I have played in a MMO yet. You get a buff that basically makes you cast faster and faster the more you spam. I usually get a hand cramp after about an hour of raiding.

I have yet to see where mezzing helps on raids (I know there are ocasions where Heroic mobs spawn you have to mez) as my mez only lasts for 15.8 seconds on Epic mobs and my mez is usually broken the second it lands anyways.
